    radeon software 15.12 bugs on r9 290

    jakke

Since the last update of catalyst software, I'm having to reboot my system (that previously only had to reboot for Windows updates) every time my screen goes to sleep mode...

I've got 3 monitors connected to my R9 290, 2 are my main monitors on my desk and the 3rd is my HDMI TV on which I watch Netflix etc.

My desk DVI monitors (1-2) are extended and the TV is mirrored on screen 1.

I always change audio source from desktop speakers to my Samsung TV when I watch something.

This setup always worked flawlessly with previous drivers/software but since the last catalyst update, whenever my monitors go to sleep (my computer never sleeps), I cannot recover without rebooting the system. Netflix will just stop playing in all browsers. It will load the main screen of a movie and just sit and hang there. The same with my media player Kodi. I can click on the timeline and it will advance to the next still image but not play and I cannot get ANY sound from the system anymore.

I can still see that the Samsung TV is connected. I can change the default sound device (and/or default communication device) from my desk monitors to my TV, back and forth, but it won't start working again until I completely reboot the system.

I've been checking my eventlogs for clues but there are no reports of any issues, let alone something that points towards the GPU or audio.

Not sure if it matters (it shouldn't), but when I use my computer on the TV, usually my desk monitors are switched off. This is not always the case and the issue happens in any case, whether everything is switched on or just the TV. The moment my computer goes to sleep, I'm done watching until I reboot and it's quite annoying (I only have mouse input by the tv, no keyboard so login/password requires me to get off my fat lazy behind).

Does the issue occur on older drivers? If not i would consider rolling back to an older Catalyst driver such as 15.11.1 Beta.

I'll give it a try when I'm back on that computer... I'll let you know if I see any difference.
Didn't have the issue before the update to 15.12, and honestly speaking, i'm not really keen on installing beta drivers (I never do).

Since my complaint, I got another driver/software update which had a supposed fix for video problems, but the issue remains.

                    Hey amdmatt,

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't really understand what happened to be honest.

I found the drivers of my previous 15.11 installation (non-beta) and thought I'd give them a try. When I ran it, I selected to install everything, even the unselected reinstallation of the HDMI audio driver. Afterwards I got the message to reboot, which I did, but when I look at the versions, I still seem to be on version 16.1 now.

HOWEVER, I did everything to get the problems again last night, watch something on the TV, let the PC screens sleep again, turn off all the monitors, switch them back on play something else and I don't see any issue anymore.

My head is just spinning a little bit because I don't understand what just happened... 15.12 gave me the problems, then I got an upgrade to 16.1, same problem, I ran the setup of 15.11 again (without uninstallation first), I'm still on 16.1 but it did seems to solve the issue.
