Catalyst Install Manager Express Uninstall Gets BSOD

Running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Installed: HD 5870 w/ Catalyst 15.7.1. I have a new R9 390 I want to install. I am trying to uninstall the Catalyst and drivers before swapping cards, using Catalyst Install Manager Express Uninstall. It attempts to uninstall the video drivers first, and gets a BSOD. Subsequent boot fails with another BSOD before entering safe/recovery mode and restoring from a previously saved restore point. How can I uninstall the old drivers and other software so I can install my new card and its new software? I've tried twice already, with the same results. I tried to run uninstall from safe mode, but CCC says it cannot run in safe mode. I saw that there exists an AMD Clean Uninstall Utility. Will this work any better? Help!
