AMD FreeSync not working, please help!

    amdhelperguy

Hello there! Thank you for taking your time and effort to try and help me.

Recently, I bought Asus MG278Q 27-inch Gaming Monitor, which supports AMD FreeSync Technology. I've had an amazing experience with the monitor and its features so far, however I have a problem with enabling AMD FreeSync Technology.

I've spent a lot of time searching the web for a solution to my problem, but I haven't found a solution that would solve my problem. So, I hope that one of you awesome guys has a solution for my problem. I have tried uninstalling AMD Graphics drivers, using AMD Clean Uninstall Utility, as well as DDU v15.7.1.0 (Display Driver Uninstaller) after that and reinstalling using AMD auto detect utility several times. Also, I have restored factory defaults in AMD Radeon Settings and monitor menu. I have made sure that the DisplayPort Stream is set to DP 1.2. In addition, I have unplugged the display port cable that came with the monitor and plugged it back into the graphics card, followed by a reboot of the PC. I did this several times, hoping that it will solve the issue, but it didn't. I have even updated (flashed) my motherboard BIOS and graphics card BIOS, which didn't help. None of these solved the issue. Furthermore, the FreeSync option doesn't come up in my monitor menu. I don't know what else I can do to resolve this issue.

I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this problem. Thank you!

I'm sorry to say that FreeSync for gaming is not supported on the Radeon HD 7900 Series graphics.

Here is the list graphics card that currently support FreeSync:

          • AMD Radeon R9 300 Series
          • AMD Radeon R9 Fury X
          • AMD Radeon R7 360
          • AMD Radeon R9 295X2
          • AMD Radeon R9 290X
          • AMD Radeon R9 290
          • AMD Radeon R9 285
          • AMD Radeon R7 260X
          • AMD Radeon R7 260

Thank you very much for your reply Sean.i!

However, now I am confused due to the fact that on AMD website 'http://support.amd.com/en-us/search/faq/219', it is clearly said that,

"All AMD Radeon™ graphics cards in the AMD Radeon™ HD 7000, HD 8000, R7 or R9 Series will support AMD FreeSync™ technology for video playback and power-saving purposes. The AMD Radeon™ R9 295X2, 290X, R9 290, R9 285, R7 260X and R7 260 GPUs additionally feature updated display controllers that will support dynamic refresh rates during gaming."

I assumed that my graphics card falls into the AMD Radeon HD 7000 Series category, as I researched the AMD Radeon HD 7000 Series in the web browser and found the following information on AMD website:

              1. http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/graphics/desktop/7000

              2. AMD Radeon™ HD 7900 Series Graphics Cards: 7970, 7970 GHz, 7950

So, would you be able to explain this to me please?

Also, looking at the information above, do you think that I could assume that my graphics card supports AMD FreeSync Technology.

              I appreciate your support!

This particular feature supports Windows 48Hz refresh mode, and a one-time refresh rate adjustment to a multiple of the video's framerate.

What you are looking for is dynamic refresh rate in gaming which is supported on:

                  • AMD Radeon R9 300 Series
                  • AMD Radeon R9 Fury X
                  • AMD Radeon R7 360
                  • AMD Radeon R9 295X2
                  • AMD Radeon R9 290X
                  • AMD Radeon R9 290
                  • AMD Radeon R9 285
                  • AMD Radeon R7 260X
                  • AMD Radeon R7 260
