I've got a new Samsung U28E590D and my MSI R9 390 is only showing 6 & 8 for color depth.
This is reportedly a 10-bit monitor, capable of 1 billion colors.
How do we enable 10-bit in Catalyst?
I'm not sure why yours isn't showing up as 10 bit , its setting you seem to already have found is under display / additional settings
I see you have a BenQ. which video card & monitor do you have?
so the issue currently is with the new Samsung U28E590D
its a benq bl3201ph and love it , highly recommended , and i use two r9 295x2 .
Looks like it's not a true native 10-bit panel, but instead a kind of pseudo 10: an 8-bit+FRC
(noted in the table and text below table.

thanks a bunch t77chevy!
I see BenQ BL3201ph also uses the 8+FRQ to create the 10-bit.

Hmmm, so similar color depth tech. Ought to see 10 in my list.
Did get an email from AMD tech so we'll see what we see...
Did confirm this monitor does report 10-bit
as my monitor is the same type setup yet has no issue tells me the monitor isnt telling the os its bit capability , and that "hack " is how to get Ubuntu to see it , now google windows registry settings for its location and mod it the same .
drivers cant fix other manufacturer issues , while its easy to point fingers at drivers , an educated man looks at what the difference is and then resolves it , and you would find nvidia would shown the same issue as the drivers get their monitor information from the os .
i would send the monitor manufacture an email and inform them the issue so " hacks " aren't needed for their products and reports correctly to the os
HA HA! Glory glory! I'm in 10-bit now!
I was researching more and looking for articles on older U28D590D (older monitor, so more articles)
thorough article had me dig into the menus more: Samsung U28D590D Review - PC Monitors
and I did a monitor reset. looked at Radeon settings again and 10 is on the list (below)
Thanks @t77chevy and good for everyone to know the monitors can be set to a mode that can lock out the card.
SOLUTION: try resetting the monitor to factory.
Even a tech at MSI yesterday didn't think of this.
Welcome , and I'm glad its working for you , enjoy those colors
Seems AMD FreeSync mode will not do 10-bit.
So, it's set:
FreeSync to off for 10-bit color
FreeSync on when gaming and limited to 8-bit (turn it back off to get 10-bit)
Nice to know!!
write the monitor manufacturer and see if any firmware updates are available as my benq will hold freesync and 10 bit operation at the same time
yeah buddy! glad to know it is possible with AMD Radeon and 8+2 panel. I'll hit up Samsung.
THANKS a bunch!!!
LOL I just went back t77chevy and absorbed your vcard. wow! bet you can cook dinner on that beast of a card. faster than a '77 vet maybe?
they do well and thank you
