Four years ago, I purchased an HP ProBook 4530s. It offered both integral Intel graphics, and a discrete Radeon Mobile system. You were supposed to be able to switch between the two (to trade off performance against power consumption). It never worked. The computer would crash, and it was never clear which graphics system was in use.
Last Monday, I finally got in touch with a knowledgeable HP person. He had me completely remove the Radeon drivers and Catalyst software, then install the last HP-approved version of same. Bingo. It works, and I've confirmed the improved performance.
Question. This is version 8 of the Catalyst system. Is there any good reason (specifically, improved graphics performance) that would justify switching to v15 Catalyst and Radeon drivers? Or will I be making trouble for myself?
I'm reminded of the old saying: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
Especially when you just fixed it!
