Hi. I've just bought a 280x from Gigabyte with three fans (GV-R928XOC-3GD-GA, Battlefield 4 promo edition).

The goal was to get a second breath and do some 1080p gaming (@ 40 fps or so, not going for 60) on an old computer with an e8600 Wolfdale Core 2 Duo clocked at 3.33GHz and 8 GB DDR2 RAM clocked at 800 MHz (SATA 2 7200 rpm HDD but SDD inbound as a replacement, also for game directories).

I know the CPU is weak compared to this GFX card, but I'm not tech-savvy enough to be able to easily figure out, on my own, which graphical settings are more GPU-dependent and which ones are more CPU-dependent. I also don't know what exactly the difference between 2GB and 3GB means, in terms of settings it can support.

Could you guys give me some pointers, please? For example, which settings should I crank up? On the other hand, which ones should I avoid raising too high?

Also: How far can these cards typically be OC'ed without resulting in artifacts?

Thanks in advance.
