I am looking to find out if there is going to be any support for the FirePro s7000 for ESXi 6.x?
Any news please ?
We just released FirePro S7150 with ESXi 6.0 support. The ESXi 6.0 support will be added to older versions at a later time.
Thanks for reporting that to us. I am just about to buy 2 of those cards and i just wanted to be sure that they will be supported under ESXi 6.0.
Any ETA ? Patience is a virtue i don't have ...
Buy 2x of which one? S7000 or S7150? The S7150 and S7150 X2 both support ESXi 6.0, unfortunately I can't give you an ETA.
I just bought 2x S7000 (second hand) to make some tests in a VDI environnement.
Ok: i am gonna wait.
Unfortunately because of the lack of support I was forced to start changing over to Nvidia cards. The price point for the AMD were good but I need the features of ESXi 6 and with no support for 6 we have moved away from AMD and I don't ever see us going back to them because of this. Sorry AMD you really need to get your act together with driver support.
fsadough just told us that there will be drivers for Esxi 6.0: i hope that as an AMD employee he has reliable informations. I am dead if i can't use my 2 S7000 with Esxi 6.0 ...
I must admit that i am a bit concerned about that. Any official AMD position ?
Thanks in advance
Looks like i will have to buy another card to use it with ESXi 6.0
Please stand by and I will update you on the progress of ESXi 6.0 support.
We are working with VMware to provide a driver under ESXi 6.0 for legacy products soon.
ESXi 6.0 driver for S7000 will be posted shortly on our web site.
Fsadough -- Did they ever post the drivers for esx6? I was looking for them this morning and I can only find the link for 5.5.
Fsadough - Any idea when the drivers come available? VMWare HCL already tells me that driver "fglrx version 12103.1224202-1OEM" for firepro s7000 and w7000 is compatible with ESXi 6.0 U2. However I cannot find this driver version from AMD support site.
The ESXi 6.0 vSGA driver can be found here:
fsadough -- thanks for the driver link.
I am able to install the driver and have the ESXi host recognize it and it seems to work with my VDI guests. The problem I have now is I am getting the purple screen of death when I have about 15 clients using 3d applications. The error that I get is a PCI error on the slot the s7000 card is in. I have confirmed with Dell that there is nothing wrong with the server it's self and the level 3 tech agrees that it looks to be an issue with the driver.
Any suggestions as to how we can get this diag'd and maybe resolved?
Did you try to set the S7000 as PCIe pass-through card?
No, Currently I am using it as vSGA.
Here is the gpuvm output:
Xserver unix:0, PCI ID 0:5:0:0, vSGA mode, GPU maximum memory 4173824KB
GPU memory left 4173824KB.
When I get to around 15 or 16 systems the entire VM will PSD and the server will have a device error.
This is the error that the dell server is throwing:
Mon Apr 25 2016 19:45:12 A bus fatal error was detected on a component at bus 0 device 3 function 0.
Mon Apr 25 2016 19:45:12 A bus fatal error was detected on a component at slot 6. -- This is the slot with the s7000
And a screen shot of the PSD.
Could be a defective hardware
in any other case I would say you might be right but at the moment I have 2 more cards that I can use to swap in and they have done the same thing.
In fact, I have 5 servers total, 3 of them have been updated to esxi 6 and all 3 of them are doing the same exact thing ever since I have updated to esxi 6. We have even gone as far as to change mother boards and risers and s7000 cards from one server to another and it has the same results as the example here.
This server that I am using as an example was working fine in production on ESXi 5.5 Friday, I updated it to ESXi 6 on Monday morning and this is now what is going on during load testing. I had Dell look at this issue with me and we can't find anything wrong with this hardware other than the card.
Is the forum my only choice of support? I mean these cards are less than a year in production don't I have any support with-in one year?
Please PM me your contact information
I have the same exact problem with AMD FirePro S9050's on VMware ESXi 6.0 U2 on 6 Dell PowerEdge R730's using vDGA and get the same crashing.
I also tried XenServer 7.0 even though it's not supported by AMD and it crashes giving the CPU and IERR error.
XenServer 6.5 runs just fine with the cards.
It has got to be a kernel or driver or GPU firmware issue for both ESXi and XenServer.
I'm going to test ESXi 5.5 to see if it is stable like XenServer 6.5.
XenServer not supported
Did you ever get to the bottom of the issue? Was it faulty hardware or problems with the driver?
This link to the driver no longer works. Could I trouble you for a reupload or a updated link?
Works just fineWorkstation
