Ubuntu 14.04 - debugging Teapot Example fails

    zebra123

      Hello,

I just tried to follow the quickstart guide using the Teapot example and when I start debugging a window pops up telling me that AMD Catalyst driver is currently not configured to allow debugging of OpenCL applications.

I am told to enter: aticonfig --sb off

If I do so it tells me no layout section was found in the xorg.conf file. I should run: aticonfig --initial

If I do so it tells me:

      Found fglrx primary device section

Unable to find any supported Screen sections

I managed to run both commands but the xorg.conf file is changed back everytime booting the system. Even if writing the file is not permitted to anybody.

It looks like this and stays like this:

      Section "Device"

          Identifier "Default Card 1"

          Driver "fglrx"

          BusID "PCI:1@0:0:0"

      EndSection

I would appreciate any help to get CodeXL running.

      Regards,

      Zebra

          Hello,

Just tested it and it is fine even though I may have messed up

things a bit here by swapping cards.

          And just in case:

          Log on as root:

          1) aticonfig --initial

          2) aticonfig --sb off

          3) log out and reboot.

Everything should be fine on 14.04 and R9 280X.

          All the best.

              Hello,

              thanks for you response!

              I have Ubuntu 14.04 latest drivers and R9 390.

              Nothings working here.

aticonfig changes the xorg.conf file. But thats restored somehow at each reboot. Therefore those changes have no effect at all. This is not happening with your setup? Do you use older drivers?

Do you have the GUI running on the 280x aswell? I cannot get the GUI back to using the internal GPU and leaving the 390 for openCL purposes only. It was automatically changed during AMD driver installation.

              Regards,

              Zebra

              I am using catalyst 14.3 (fgrlx 13.35.5).

I will get interested in the latest drivers when I have a complete

front-end/ocl  code fully tested and ready to take over from the

              original.

Not certain where the Codexl gui is running.
