    Windows 10 won't wake up

    jackgerber

I have an AMD R9 200 Series video card on my PC.  I was having problems with the computer not waking up when I came back to it.  It was traced to a defective video card which was replaced.  It was still having q problem until I manually uninstalled the video driver and then installed the latest one again.  The problem then disappeared.  Now I have upgraded to Windows 10 and the problem is back.  I have tried manually uninstalling the driver and updating it with the latest recommended driver downloaded from AMD but the problem persists.  Anyone having the same problem or a suggested solution?

idk if this is the same problem but since i upgraded to windows 10 and when i leave my computer for a hour or 2 (when the monitors go off) when i come back it wont wake up the monitors won't turn on and i have to do a hard rest, is this what is happening with you? i have a R9 390X which i just got yesterday so i didn't know if it was just with that card since i didn't test it with my old R9 280

For what it's worth, I found a temporary solution.  This is ONLY good if you are using a desktop or computer that is always plugged in.  Just go to the power settings and set it to NEVER sleep or hibernate.  Problem solved!  If you are running from a battery you can't do this but otherwise, it costs a bit more to run but it's trivial compared to the waste of time having to turn the computer off and on again to start it.  The screen saver will come on and that's that.

              I have the same problem.

It's happened with both a Lenovo Erazer X315 and a ASUS M32BC - both use AMD FX and AMD Radeon

Below was suggested to never put computer to sleep or shut down monitor.  That did not fix it.

I installed the latest AMD Catalyst for drivers...that didn't help either.

Disables ErP power settings in BIOS - no luck

So...just saying "me too".  Come on AMD, Windows 10 has been out long enough.  This is not an isolated issue.  How about a fix?  You are losing customers (I'm a long time AMD fan, used to work there...)

If I return this computer, I'm not getting another AMD processor (sorry).  This has happened with 2 computer, I've spend 3 weeks trying to get around this...I'm about to give up.

Disabling ULPS has worked for me (sleep mode off, screen off after 10 minutes)

                ULPS: How to disable

I was really hopeful with turning off the ULPS option (even went back to Best Buy to buy back the PC I had returned, which was now an open-box model).

It's helped in that when I move the mouse, it comes out of sleep, so that did cover part of the problem.  In the case of the ASUS I bought a few weeks ago, I bet it would have solved the entire problem.

The problem I'm having now (Lenovo Erazer X315) which I was also having before the ULPS suggestion is about 1/3 of the time, when it comes out of sleep the fan goes to full speed, and the monitor never wakes up.

I was having this problem before, but it wasn't related to "sleep" mode, it was more related to if the computer sat idle for a long time (i.e., 3+ hours from what I could tell) the monitor would be off, the fan was at full speed although the air being pushed by the fan didn't necessarily feel hot.  It never comes out of this mode.

                    Update 10/15/2015:

I have to give Lenovo support credit for this, but I think I figured out how to get the fan to stop going crazy when coming out of sleep / computer being idle!  Trick is to turn on Hybrid sleep but turn off Hibernate.  To be totally correct, they said to activate  the High Performance power setting (with the changes above) but my testing seems like it's really tied to turning off Hibernate but on Hybrid Sleep (advanced power settings, then select the option to edit settings that are unavailable).  They also said to deactivate sleep and hibernate from the power options...but I don't think that has anything to do with this...what I can say is nearly 1 week and no fan on high when the computer is left idle for a long time or when coming out of sleep.

Thanks for the advice...it got me going in the right direction.

This is *exactly* my problem - when it comes out of sleep the fan goes crazy and the monitor never wakes up.  My Hybrid sleep is on and my Hibernate is off, but I'm using Balanced power settings.  I've switched to High Performance, let's see if that helps.

Just wanted to update: this worked for me!  Turning the computer to High Performance has caused the problem to stop - ran the computer all weekend and never had it spin up its fans when coming out of sleep.  @sde_az, I'm super grateful!

See below regarding ULPS and Hybrid sleep...I think I found something that will help

                          The same ******** problem!

                          I have Acer E-1 572g with R7 265 amd card!

For me the solution was in driver: you dont really have to install the latest amd driver, I think that actually cause the problem. You have to install the actual driver from your CD with drivers, if you dont have dont worry, its easily can be found in google. Just type in model of a notebook and I'm sure you can find a specific version of AMD driver for your video card, that could solve a problem with not waking up.

Buuut there is another side of a medal, I realized it just now - basically I cant play  Fallout 4, every time it goes off after few seconds of starting logos.

Yes! So i have to choose.

And I really wanted to know if any of amd specialists come to this forum and checks new troubles their users have?? I mean this question is here for almost a half of year and its still not solved?? And this a community you go straight out of official AMD website??
