I don't want to go through the free install just to uninstall because lack of driver support.
Windows 10 was officially launched today and at this point in time we've only released drivers for mainstream Radeon graphics products.
Firepro products are workstation class products and Windows 10 support will available at a later date. Since these products are primarily used for business critical functions, I do not imagine companies are rushing to upgrade their workstations to a brand new operating system on day 1.
I really think that is a lousy excuse. As the premier provider of graphics hardware you should be bound by professional duty to have your hardware supported by drivers for any form of major software release. It's true that it is a professional product, but all of your units are not in an exclusively professional environment. I do professional Revit design work as well as rendering on the same PC that I use for entertainment. I know that from a local user group that I am not alone. There is a large secondary market as well. I upgraded my v5900 to a v7900 and I know that person is in the same situation. I'm sorry, but not having drivers ready reeks of the old ATI days when driver support was a major issue. It's just bad business. You may not hear complaints, just the soft foot steps of people going to Nvidia next time.
Agreed hickerson. AMD has had months to prepare at least a beta Windows 10 driver for Firepro and workstation graphics cards. We Firepro users pay a premium for these driver support. Workstation markets as well as "mainstream" Radeon markets need equal love.....if not more for us Firepro users who pay top dollar for these products. I think we deserve a better answer than the one given thus far.
And...please give us a time table and some indication that a Windows 10 driver is coming.
I assist my clients by testing Firepro and Quadro drivers before they install them. There is *always* someone who wants to move to the latest version of Windows as soon as they can and it's my job to let them know if their graphics card is going to work properly. I guess my answer at this time would be, "Well, AMD doesn't have drivers but Nvidia does".
So, where are AMD on this issue? People have Firepro cards.....people want to upgrade to Windows 10.....AMD doesn't have Firepro drivers for Windows 10...people having major issues getting Windows 10 working...AMD employee blames lack of support because of businesses supposedly not wanting to upgrade to the newest OS right away. Yeah, maybe if your AAA game developers!, but everyone else would like the support: e.i - small business and student/college markets.
Rather you personally like Apple or not, it is #1 and #2 in just about every field they apply themselves in. Currently these cards are packaged with their single most expensive, most powerful system that they sell. The powerhouse marketed to render 4K video on four 4K screens, and I can't open the simplest application right now. (Yes, I installed Windows 10 figuring that AMD looked at itself as a market leader and trusted they'd support their top-tier cards.) Apple, the #1/#2 company's, #1 product and this is how AMD is acting about it. It's completely disrespectful and irresponsible from not only a consumer standpoint, but a business partner standpoint. It's not smart either, in a world where literally everyone has a device in their pocket that can send out a message from hundreds to hundreds of thousands of people instantly; Twitter, Facebook, etc.
This is like if Intel didn't update their Xeon series because their i7 series is more 'mainstream'. Of course it is, when the fourteen core processor costs four times as much and performs even better. That doesn't mean you don't support it just the same, if not the exact opposite- support it more when it costs and does more. Especially when the Windows 10 Preview first went out [October 1, 2014], leaving you nearly a year to do --something-- to make right on this already. Instead we're days past launch with our computers useless, and the most we have is an old support post making excuses that we've all torn to shreds. None of this is right.
Just want to add my voice to the response, in the hope that AMD is keeping an eye on these discussions. I've got a W5100 card in my workstation and part of the reason for getting a proper workstation card was that the manufacturer takes drivers seriously. Instead of which AMD will get around to them "at a later date". However much we habitually knock them, Microsoft seems to have done a pretty good job of ensuring Windows 10 was stable and ready by launch date. Plenty of users have been testing the professional software I use (Vectorworks etc) on Windows 10 for some time and have found it problem free, so why should I not want to upgrade? Shame on AMD for not taking the opportunity to keep pace with their drivers. Can we have a release date, please?
Good news! Windows 10 (Beta) driver for AMD FirePro is ready now at www.amd.com/drivers.
You can download the driver under “Manually Select Your Driver” as follows.
Step 1. Select “Workstation Graphics”
Step 2. Select “FirePro BETA Driver”
Step 3. Select your product for example, FirePro W9100
Step 4. Select “Windows 10 (32 Bit/64 Bit)” as Operating System
Thank you for being patient whilst we applied the finishing touches to our Firepro drivers.
hi , i downloaded the most recent driver for the firepro V7900 with windows 10 driver .... i did upgrade to windows 10 pro 64bit from W7 ultimate / 64bit . Even with the current driver i have two driver issues . Firstly Adobe camera raw in photoshop CC 2015 has turned off the GPU performance due to an error so i dont have the advanced performance i should have with this card . The second issue is , i had to turn of the hardware acceleration in flash player, if i tried to watch a non html5 video online it actually froze the computer , had to shut the computer do down from the power button . This happened with all browsers , firefox / chrome / edge . This problem cant be unique to me although i am probably one of not so many who have upgraded to windows 10 . The firepro V7900 ran on windows 7 with no issues for me .
