OpenGL version and graphics drivers

Question asked by davidp on Jul 12, 2015

Hey all,

I have a Dell Inspiron Zino HD computer that I purchased in 2009.  According to the Device Manager in Windows, the display adapter is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4300.  The computer initially came installed with Windows 7, but I am currently running Windows 8.1.

I recently downloaded a game from steam (Homeworld Remake), and it told me that I couldn't run the game because my graphics driver didn't support OpenGL 3.3.  It said the latest version it supports is OpenGL 1.1.

I have attempted to download various driver updates from both the Dell and the AMD websites, but to no avail.  What can I do?  Surely it can't be a problem of the age of the computer.  OpenGL 3.3 was released only a year after I purchased the computer, and the most recent drivers appear to be much more recent than that.

Any ideas or suggestions?  Thanks!
