I'm asking just to be sure, can you crossfire the r9 290 with an r9 390?
As the 390 is a refresh of the 290 with the same architecture it should work, right?
I decided to go ahead and buy the r9 390 and can confirm that it work! While Battlefield 4 and Valley benchmark both show good scaling in crossfire, I've run into problems with GTA V, but that seems to be a problem with the current 15.7 drivers or the game itself. The 8GB r9 390 is in crossfire with an 8GB r9 290.
ray_mamdmatt.should be able to give a more definite answer.
We're looking into it chaps, thanks for bringing it to our attention.
I think we need a new compatibility chart since the 3xx series is out
I see the 300 series have been grouped separately again from 200/HD series on the driver download page.
This (to me),seems to point to not compatible.
According to this article (www.pcworld.com/article/2947402/amd-catalyst-157-drivers-secretly-unlocked-crossfire-support-between-r300-and-r200-radeon-gpus.html) the crossfire support seems to be there with the new 15.7 drivers. It would still be nice to know if this is (like it most likely is) intented and official. Nothing would be more annoying than suddenly having your crossfire setup break because of a driver update.
I would like to know the answer . Please ?
I just got off the phone with AMD tech and they said ABSOLUTELY NOT...IT WILL NOT WORK! YOU MUST HAVE TWO OF THE SAME CARDS IN ORDER TO CROSSFIRE...IE (2) R9 290's or (2) R9 390's you cannot mix and match them up. I will take the word of an AMD technical rep when it come to this issue. (I hope this is NOW acceptable to the moderators)...
