I recently decided to change the thermal paste on my CPU-cooler.
Removed the cooler, cleaned residue thermal paste from cooler and CPU, applied new paste and refastened the cooler onto the CPU.
The problem is that the temperature rises steadily up to 70 degrees Celcius WHEN IDLE!
When under load it never goes above 80C although the CoreTemp almost Always shows 80-90C.
I have tried to refit the cooler and also tried using less/more thermal paste but still get the same results.
The CPU-fan is running something like 1200RPM all the time.
I have run out of ideas to solve this and am hoping that one of you might be able to help me.
The CPU is a AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition
The cooler is a CoolerMaster 412s
I am using CPUID Hardware Monitor.
This is what I get right after the computer is turned on:
And this is a couple of minutes later without load:
This is what I get from my BIOS:
Q-Fan gives me the option for Performance, Optimal or Disabled. As much as I'm aware Q-Fan did not do any difference at all. The fan speeds just keep going on max, like when the feature is disabled.
This is from AMD Overdrive:
Might there be something wrong with the temperature sensor or the CPU itself? Or am I missing something obvious?
Thank you for your help!
