It's an article I came across a while back while researching what the crap runs off of 3.3v and 5v these days. It was written in 2003, so it doesn't mention the need for a very high 12v rail due to graphics cards as just 11 years ago we were still using the very powerful (for the time) bleeding edge Radeon 9600XT and AGP ports, which could provide a massive 48w of power (36w of which came from 3.3v and 5v)! Instead it talks about the need for a robust 12v rail for the CPU due to the switch to 12v regulators, and for the number of drives and fans. It also talks about the Dell proprietary PSU fiasco. Funny from a 2014 standpoint, it talks about you needing a good quality 300w power supply with him recommending a 425w. How times have changed...
