I wouldn't consider this performance issue resolved.
I just installed these drivers on a fresh Ubuntu installation and TF2 performance is still very inconsistent.
I'm not talking about load times.
There are very sudden frame drops while playing online and even times when it takes up to a second to render the next frame.
Enabling vsync introduces input lag and rubber-banding.
Changing settings without restarting TF2 will reduce FPS down to the 20s/30s (fixed with the latest beta).
This is all with a Radeon HD 7970 (more details below).
I strongly recommend the driver developers to test TF2 online if they haven't done so.
24/32 players servers with a lot of action going on is where significant stuttering/pausing goes on.
