Along with compiler which supports AVX instructions you will also need ‘binutil’ and ‘glibc’ packages which has a support for AVX instructions’.
Assembler is part of binutils package.
You will need Binutils ver. 22.214.171.12400122-0.7.9 or above and Glibc 2.11 or above to take the benefit of AVX instruction set on your machine.
Most of latest Linux Distro’s support AVX instructions set e.g. SLES11, RHEL6.*, Ubuntu11.10, Fedora 16.
You can either install these packages or update your system to latest release.

If i don't have the libc and binutils updated, the gcc cannot compile that. I've updated that and I can compile.
