I've got a short question on running kernels. 

Is there any possibilty to keep the screen/GUI refreshing while a kernel runs on GPU?

The GPU is a not a pre-emptible device, so it is not possible. Future hardware might allow this, but the only way to run a long kernel on the GPU and update the display is to put the display on a non-compute GPU.
