    Can we use Code Analyst to just see hot spots within a compiled web-app?

      Code Analyst to check IIS web-app's hot spots?

      Hi,  I'm new to Code Analyst and would like to know if this tool can be used to find the hot spots within a compiled .NET web-app running under Microsoft's IIS?  (I'm aware that because the code is compiled that I may not be able to see the source code for the hot spots.)  Thanks.  -R.L.

          It's inconvenient to profile .net web app with CodeAnalst because CodeAnalyst is still using .NET profile V2 interface. The .NET V2 profile interface requires that .NET profiler hook up with the app at the launch time.

          You need to stpo the .NET web server first. Then set the following environment variables when you re-start .net web server:

          For 32bit .NET:

          set Cor_Enable_Profiling=0x1
          set COR_PROFILER={D007F1AC-DA06-4d68-BF47-E94790DD379F}

          for 64bit .NET:

          set Cor_Enable_Profiling=0x1
          set COR_PROFILER={891D5491-7E37-4b23-BE66-1C837FED378B}

          If .NET framework 4.0 is used, you need to

          set COMPLUS_ProfAPI_ProfilerCompatibilitySetting=EnableV2Profiler

          In CodeAnalsyt session configuration, you can leave the "launch" as blank since web server is launched separately.
