Radeon Pro 580 8gb driver for iMac 22.2.2 Needed for UE5

UE5 is asking me to update my 20.45 etc video driver to 22.2.2, as the former is known to have problems.

Installing the latest MacOS installs the same older driver that's no good. Tried from Windows 10 under Bootcamp, but the lastest Bootcamp drivers here are the same old driver.

I called AMD, they told me they don't handle Bootcamp drivers, to call Apple. Called Apple, and they said to call AMD...

Nothing like being in a finger pointing game, where you're the one in the middle getting zero help.

There is a Windows driver that is newer, but it can't be installed under Bootcamp. It has to be a Bootcamp driver, becauase Apple won't let you install a Windows video driver from a Windows driver installer.

Any other UE5 devs out there stuck in this video driver cluster f?

Good news! Matt_HD has at Bootcamprdrivers ferreted out the code AMD adds to break the Windows driver installers (so nice of AMD, oh, but blame Apple...).

We now have driver 22.11.2, a current driver. UE5 Editor no longer throws an out of date video card driver notification.

Nice. Don't have to buy a new computer just yet. Thanks for not doing this for us, AMD.

I can confirm Nanite, which was not working under former driver, is all good now.

Onward, through the fog!

This unofficial Bootcamp site where the author modifies that latest AMD Driver to work in Windows Boot Camp environment.

Generally this site has the latest AMD driver to download and use. Use at your own risk but this site I do often refer to those Mac Users that need the latest AMD driver for Boot Camp: https://www.bootcampdrivers.com/

Yes, checked out the Bootcampdrivers page. Looks like I will have to just use that. AMD says go to Apple for Bootcamp drivers, Apple says go to AMD, nothing was resolved.

Hopefully I don't screw anything up. I watched the installation video, and it's, a little more than I like to get into, but, I'm done with these Corporations, in terms of expecting what I grew up knowing as, Customer Service.

I haven't heard from any other Users that I have referred to that website of having any troubles. They either said it worked fine or it didn't solve their problem.

The trouble is Windows Boot-camp works in a MacOS PC even though it is using a Windows environment and needs a Mac installer to install the driver.  Which is probably why AMD says to go to Apple since it is a Apple PC.

But AMD does make Boot-camp drivers which you can download from the AMD Download page but generally they aren't the latest version: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/apple-boot-camp

Surprisingly the latest Boot-Camp driver from above link is from 03/14/2022 but version 21.30.44.07 and from 03/15/2022 version 20.45.40.15 depending on which Mac PC you are using.

AMD personal, in the past, here at AMD Forums even says to go to Apple Support for Windows Boot-Camp issues or drivers.

Both the Bootcamp drivers AMD has up, aren't current enough, even thought they went up a month ago.

I went through 3 customer reps and an engineer at Apple, and they insist it's AMD who makes the Bootcamp drivers. I asked them to give that to me in writing, so I could bring it to AMD, being, AMD says go to Apple. AMD says Apple has to make them, because they don't have anything to do with Boocamp. **bleep**

Of course Apple absolutely refused to put it in writing that it's AMD who needs to update them.

It was quite infuriating, and distasteful. That's okay, I'm done with Apple, forever, at this point. Apple screwed me as a working professional so many times since Jobs left, I just can't. No more.

Maybe you can contact the developer of Unofficial Boot-camp driver website and ask him how Boot-Camp drivers are different from regular Windows drivers on a Windows PC.

Plus he might be able to help you with your situation.

Anyways if you should install the AMD Driver from that website will you post back to let me know if it worked or not?

EDIT: Went to Unofficial Boot-Camp website and under Compatibility the March 2022 version is not compatible with your GPU Card:

So I guess you are out of luck. Sorry I didn't look at the website's Compatibility Chart before suggesting that website.

Also unmark mine reply as the solution which it obviously isn't.

Yeh, seems I'll be changing out this iMac for a PC. I don't develop games for Mac or iOS anyway at this point, Apple chased me away from that a while ago.

I used to do pre-press imaging, photography, high quality printing, and music/audio, hence the Mac ecosystem. I still have a lesser iMac, a Laptop, and an ancient tower that still works like a charm, all Macs, to boot up if I need to do anything I'm set up on my older Macs for.

So, this newer fangled iMac with the GPU driver issue, will find a new owner, as I move on to a PC proper. Of course I've never bought a PC, let alone built one. Got some homework to do...

Great to hear the update.

Gee, it only took 8 months of your time to finally be able to install the latest AMD Boot Camp driver that actually works.

It appears that you're facing difficulties in updating the video driver for your Radeon Pro 580 8GB graphics card on your iMac in order to use Unreal Engine 5 (UE5). Dealing with driver compatibility can be a challenge, especially on macOS systems running Bootcamp. Here are a few suggestions to consider:

  1. Check macOS Updates: Make sure your macOS is fully up to date. Sometimes, system updates can include graphics driver updates. Check for any macOS updates and install them.

  2. AMD's Bootcamp Drivers: While AMD may have referred you to Apple, you can still explore AMD's Bootcamp driver options for Windows. It's possible that newer Bootcamp drivers will become available in the future. Keep an eye on AMD's website for updates.

  3. Apple Support Communities: Visit Apple's support communities or forums. There might be other Mac users facing similar issues or who have found workarounds. These communities can be a valuable resource for finding solutions to driver-related problems.

  4. UE5 Compatibility Updates: Check Unreal Engine's website or community forums for any updates or patches related to driver compatibility. They might provide information or solutions for running UE5 on macOS systems.

  5. Consider an External GPU (eGPU): If driver issues persist and you're using a compatible Mac, you might consider using an eGPU with a different GPU model that has better driver support. This would require additional hardware, but it can provide more flexibility in terms of GPU drivers.

  6. Reach Out to UE5 Community: You're not alone in facing these challenges. Connect with the Unreal Engine community, either through forums, Reddit, or social media. Other developers may have found workarounds and can offer guidance.

  7. Consult with a Mac Specialist: If you're still unable to resolve the issue, consider consulting with a Mac specialist or Apple-certified technician who may have insights into potential solutions.

Remember that driver compatibility issues can be complex, and solutions might not be immediate. Continue to monitor for updates from AMD, Apple, and Unreal Engine, and explore the options mentioned above to find the best way to get UE5 up and running on your iMac.
