I have a customer who is willing to migrate his VM farm (Vmware) from intel servers to AMD epyc CPUs. His main concern is application and OS compatibility. Is this something to bother or can we blindly go ahead.
There is no need for your customer to worry. Please see our VM Migration guide (https://www.amd.com/system/files/documents/virtual-machine-migration-guide-epyc-7000-series.pdf ) for questions and concerns about how to do so. As it says in section 1.2.3, processors from both companies are compatible with the x86 architecture. While a live migration will not work, a cold migration will be.
