Are you having specific issues with an Ubuntu 17.04 installation? grep dmesg (e.g. dmesg|egrep 'radeon|drm') for any error messages. You should at least be able to install/use 17.04 without having to install specific drivers. Make sure you also set/enable the proper driver repositories during the installation when prompted.
