AMD Remote Workstation: Introducing Encode Acceleration for Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops

In 2018, AMD Remote Workstation¹ was created to enable professionals to access their physical workstations from virtually anywhere with rich graphics acceleration.

Today, AMD and Citrix® are building on this vision with the introduction of select AMD Radeon™ Pro GPU-accelerated encode integration into the latest release of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops™.

Encode acceleration translates into three areas of greater capability for AMD Remote Workstation users:

• Better click-to-response time: AMD’s low-latency encode engine will crunch a 1080p desktop frame in milliseconds. This provides for even more responsive content creation workflows.
• Enhanced system performance: With the task of encoding offloaded to the AMD Radeon™ Pro WX GPU, the CPU now has more cycles to tackle whatever you throw at it.
• Smooth video playback: Dedicated encoding capability can help alleviate the resource-consuming task of maintaining a smooth and high framerate that is typically placed on the CPU during media viewing.
