Upgrade

I am currently using an AMD FX 8320 CPU in an Asus M5 A97 R2.0 motherboard.

Is there a currently available CPU that would improve the performance of my system?

See which is better than the one you currently have. But to tell you truth the difference between the various FX 83xx is not that big of a difference. It really wouldn't be worth spending money.

I would rather upgrade to a Ryzen Motherboard - AM4 Socket Motherboard if it is within your budget. But the FX 8xxx series processor are a very good processor series.
