Ryzen 7 3700x - hardware error - Processor Core

Dear all

I hope you could help me to diagnose the problem I have.  3 Days ago I bought some parts to bulid a PC:

- AMD Ryzen 7 3700x
- Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite
- MSI Geforce GTX 1660 Ti Gaming
- Corsair RM750 *2019*
- 2x16 GB Corsair CMK32GX4M2B3200C16

I have installed Windows 10 Pro 20H2 build 19042.685, Installed CPU chipset driver, installed x570 systemboard drivers, installed newest Geforce Experience + Studio driver (tried with gaming driver) but I have strange random reboots with the following Event log detail:

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error

I tried to run Prime95 Stresstest (all) sometimes it finishes successfully, sometimes the PC reboots after 2 min or after 15 min.

I already re-connected all components, tried with 1 memory (swapped too), memtest was OK too.

I did not find any dump files in Windows directory.

Could you please help me to diagnose this issue?

Thank you in advance,

Regards,

Robert

Re: Ryzen 7 3700x - hardware error - Processor Core

I am running the same CPU and MB (Aorus Elite, Rev. 1). New rig with RX 5600XT and 32 GB Trident Neo @3600.

I and many others have been having similar issues, most often reported with 5800X, 5900X, and 5950X CPUs.

There are new driver and BIOS updates available in the last 10 days. I applied the updates on the evening of 12/10 and my machine has been running without incident for 2.5 days. I've thrashed it with Memtest and the CPU load test on CPU-Z for hours. I have not shut the machine down over this period, so it has idled for long periods of time. Most shutdowns have been reported to occur during idling or light loads.

Here's my driver setup. Note the BIOS F31o which updates AMD AGESA to 1.1.0.0D. This is the likely fix for you.

Gigabyte Aorus Elite (v1)

From Gigabyte website:

Realtek Audio Driver version 6.0.9054.1 dated 11/26/2020 (WHCP)
AMD Chipset Driver version 2.09.28.509 dated 11/05/2020
including PCI Bus Driver 20.50.0.0 dated 11/6/2020 (WHCP)
                BIOS F31o dated 12/03/2020 Update AMD AGESA ComboV2 1.1.0.0D

RX 5600 XT Windforce OC (r2)

From Gigabyte website:

Realtek Audio Driver version 6.0.9054.1 dated 11/26/2020 (WHCP)
AMD Chipset Driver version 2.09.28.509 dated 11/05/2020
including PCI Bus Driver 20.50.0.0 dated 11/6/2020 (WHCP)
                BIOS F31o dated 12/03/2020 Update AMD AGESA ComboV2 1.1.0.0D

Hope that helps.

Re: Ryzen 7 3700x - hardware error - Processor Core

Forgot to mention:

PBO and XMB are enabled with RAM running at 3600.

I think you will find that the APIC (Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller) ID refers to the core number in the CPU (up to 16 (actual + virtual threads) in our case) where the cache hierarchy error (corruption) took place. IMHO, this issue is related to the microcode (BIOS) and processor C-states. It is not likely to be a REAL hardware failure.

If you update the BIOS or rollback to F20 or F30, you should be OK. The latest BIOS updates have been to accommodate the 5000 series CPUs, while you (and I) are using a 3700x, and of course, we updated everything to the latest and greatest and are suffering for it. Again, BIOS F31o (AMD AGESA 1.1.0.0D) should fix the problem.

Re: Ryzen 7 3700x - hardware error - Processor Core

Hello

Thanks the info, I tried and updated it to the newest BIOS but after reinstalling the windows and the drivers it happens again..It was the same random reboots as before. After I replaced the mainboard to x570 aorus Pro, reconnected everything, updated bios, started windows and buff..rebooted again.

Now I try to reinstall windows with the new mainboard and will update you what happened. If still the same I think I need to send the cpu or gpu to DOA.

Sometimes I can read/write install apps for 1-2 hours but sometimes it goes down after the windows login.

Regards,

Robert

Re: Ryzen 7 3700x - hardware error - Processor Core

Hello

The same message, now after the mainboard replacement APIC ID is 2 not 3. I reinstalled now the App Center, when I launched an utility from the app center the windows reboots immediately. Sometimes after I type my PIN to login to windows and I hit enter -> reboot...I will try some settings in BIOS maybe I found something.

Is strange..

Regards,

Robert
