I recently bought a Ryzen 7 1700x as a workstation after I put my old work station (Intel i7-3770) out to pasture.
The machine is used mostly for modeling, photoshop and intensive 3d rendering (vray)
On previous computers I had never even bothered to monitor temps or even been concerned, and I put my machines through hell with 20 hour plus 3d renders.
Since this is a new toy I installed Core Temp and Ryzen Master to monitor temps. In the beginning temps were fairly stable 38-40°C. But recently I have been seeing spikes that go all the way from 25°C to 236°C. They never stay at 236°C, it's just a quick spike and then back down to idle temp.
I had been running the High performance plan and then Balanced plan, where idle temps went from 33°C-48°C and maxed at 66°C under load with an occasional spike to 86°C, but never as high as 236°C.
I have since switched to Power saver mode and idle has gone back down to around 27°. I haven't tested temp under load with this plan yet.
Just to add that since this will also be a rendering machine, I ditched the heatsink and added Aio liquid cooling and replaced the stock radiator fan with a Noctua nf-f12 3000rpm fan. It's loud as sin but I only run it at max rpm during a render.
I am not a technical person so I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but 236°C is Turkey cooking temp and I would imagine the machine would shut down at anything that high. has anyone seen anything like this before?
