Hey, was wondering if amd ryzen 5 3600x was compatible with:

ASUS ROG Strix B450-F GAMING, Socket-AM4

it says it only supports gen 1 and 2 but several others can work out with third gen i know.

Yes, Your Asus Motherboard supports that Ryzen Processor according to its CPU Support list: ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING | ROG - Republic Of Gamers | ASUS USA 

But the Motherboard must have the minimum BIOS version 2301 installed for the processor to be recognized and to boot up.

Plus you also need to check to see if your current RAM MEMORY is listed on your Motherboard's QVL List for Matisse processors: ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING | ROG - Republic Of Gamers | ASUS USA

I have the same board with a 3600. On the box it stated Ryzen 3000 ready however a few blue screen issues came about. The issue seem to involve the m.2. They released a bios update to fix it.
