R9 M375 only has 1GB Vram?

Jump to solution

Pretty new to this forum so I don't know if I'm wording this correctly.

I recently received a Lenovo Z51-70 with specs including a 5th generation Intel Core i7-5500U Processor and AMD Radeon R9 M375 4GB GPU, as well as 8 GB for its Ram.

For a while I've been doubting the websites saying that the R9 M375 has 4 gigabytes of video card memory due to some disappointing performance when gaming. I know the laptop's strange features such as performance becoming significantly slower when the power adapter is plugged off as well as the GPU not recognizing some older games, but I managed to find solutions to those.

I've only recently managed to try and figure out the amount of memory both the display devices the laptop had using CPU-Z. The results were pretty strange.

The memory size is far from 4 GB.

Even stranger is how Intel Graphics seems to have the said 4 GB Vram.

Can anyone clarify what's this about? I've seen multiple websites say that the R9 M375 GPU does indeed have 4 GB of memory, although there is a common variant that has 2 GB but that's still twice the amount I'm seeing here.

According to Lenovo Z51-70 - Notebookcheck.net External Reviews that card has 2GB VRAM, but I suppose your exact model could have been configured with less. What does GPU-Z say?

I'm guessing I didn't do much research here, but the GPU-Z results are quite different from the ones shown by CPU-Z.

Well, I guess that was my mistake. I think CPU-Z has different ways of handling things hence the results.

But thanks for letting me know about GPU-Z.

Mobile chips are a little bit different from desktop chips, and they added the graphics tab not very long ago so its detection isn't perfect.
