Processor Says 8 Core, Windows Task Manager Says 4 Core

I was just curious if there was some setting that was wrong.

I noticed this when I opened my task manager the other day.processor.png

The Max speed is correct. So it's not a huge issue, but just trying to optimize things.

I see that it does say 8 Logical Processors, so I dunno if that's the same thing as a core in certain perspectives.

Any thoughts?

The FX-8350 has 4 Bulldozer Modules each composed of 2 integer and 1 floating point processor.

Re: Processor Says 8 Core, Windows Task Manager Says 4 Core

Windows treats FX CPUs as hyperthreaded CPUs so an eight core 8350 will read as 4 cores and 8 logical processors. Windows 8 and windows 10 thread schedule differently to windows 7 so treating an FX CPU as hyperthreaded with those OSes doesn't impact performance in the same way.

Apparently windows does this to avoid scheduling too many floating point operations (even though each module has 2 Fuse Multiply Add units they technically operate as only one FPU shared between two Integer cores).

You'll notice that if you change the graph in task manager to logical processors from overall it will show 8 separate graphs.
