Good evening!

I currently have an Intel config

9900k
Asus Maximus hero xi
Asus Strix 3090 OC
Seasonic prime ultra 1000w

I am currently having problems with my pc which according to my diagnostics come either from the graphics card (which I will test tomorrow) or from the motherboard.

While looking for information I started to take a little more interest in ryzen and I am tempted

I use my pc for games, but also for work. Photoshop, illustrator, in design and light video editing

I was thinking of a 5900x, the 5950x would be really better?
The dark hero looks great

Ram level I have not found the compatibility lists, I currently have a gskill trident z f4-3466c16q-32gtzr kit I have no idea if this would be compatible? At least while waiting to get better. I was thinking about this

Finally if I switch to ryzen will I be totally lost in the bios or for the oc?

I am personally a fan of Asus Motherboard. The Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Dark HERO is an excellent Motherboard with the BIOS FLASHBACK Feature.

According to the Motherboard's CPU SUPPORT LIST, the Ryzen 9  5950X will work out of the box without a BIOS update:

Ryzen 9 5950X (Vermeer) (3.4GHz,105W,L3:64M,16C)

ALL

0210 GO

I know that the G-Skill Trident-Z RAM Memory are generally compatible with Ryzen Processors.

You can check the Asus Motherboard's QVL List for the 5000 Series Processors from here: https://rog.asus.com/us/motherboards/rog-crosshair/rog-crosshair-viii-dark-hero-model/helpdesk_qvl

According to the above Asus QVL List for the 5000 Series it shows the RAM you chose as compatible but with a set of 4 sticks not 2. It doesn't show a set of 2 RAM sticks just a Set of 4 Ram sticks.

In the RAM Part Number the 16D (DUAL) seems to indicate a set of 2 RAM sticks while 16Q (QUAD) seems to indicate a set of 4 Sticks.

But the 16D should work with a set of 2 Ram sticks.

If i had to buy ram would 3609 cl16 be fine? I've been advised to get 3200 cl14 since those are bdie

I've not made up my mind yet.. Not sure this would be a giant leap from a 9900k right?

From what I have learned the "Sweet RAM Speed" for the 3000 series Processors is 3600Mhz while the "Sweet RAM Speed" for the 2000 series Processors is 3200Mhz.

I am assuming that the "Sweet Spot or Sweet Ram Speed" for the 5000 series Processors is the same as the 3000 series Processors at 3600Mhz.

I have a Ryzen 7  3700X with G-Skill Trident-Z NEO 3600Mhz RAM installed in my PC without any issues (32GB Total) in my Asus TUF Gaming X570 Pro (WiFi) Motherboard.

Now whether the Intel processor you mentioned is better, the same, or worse than the Ryzen 9 5950X some other User will need to answer that question.

I would ask on the Professional software forums what they believe is the best for Video editing, Rendering, etc. AMD or Intel PCs.

I was actually looking at the 3900x, sounds more interesting than the 3950x for the price
