I've got an A8 7600 processor combined with an R7 260X graphics card. Is there much to be gained in terms of the computers speed if I upgraded to an X4 870K or a X4 880K? Would there be a noticeable difference or would any change be minimal?

Look up the Passmark scores for those CPUs and you will find a mere 560 point improvement (for 880K) - nope, forget it!
