i have an FX 4300 processor which is a quad core processor but it is showing only 1 core in my task manager. how do i get my other 4 cores activated ?

Try and configure System Configuration and check mark the box "Number of processors" and click on 4 and see if the resolves your problem:

Also check in BIOS and make sure your Processor has all cores activated.
