I read about the new Ryzen 7's that are supposed to come out this year. Is there really a new Ryzen processor coming out with 12 cores and at least 4Ghz? Reddit is claiming that it is a hoax, but it isn't quite as far fetched as the Hellcat Minivan that FCA hinted about, and I question the reliability of Reddit.
With the die shrink and more mature architecture it is possible, though most likely a 12 core processor would be along the lines of 3.5ghz base 4ghz turbo. However, remember that raw speed and core count is all secondary to IPC capability.
Well it is theoretically possible there will be a 1 core Turbo frequency of 5ghz, benefits of a smaller node are increased power efficiency, I'd think that'd be more for the 4-8 core chips, people that are buying 12 core chips aren't going to just be using one core.
