Does Ryzen 7 4800 H support virtualization ?

Dear Gents,

i am planning to buy laptop which could be used for Cybersecurity Learning

  1. i want to learn hacking courses such as CEH/CHFI which require more than OS Labs and some tools consume a lot of computing power such as password cracking /DoS attack tools, .etc
  2. Developing Network simulation using GNS3 which may connect multiple PC VMs as hosts "simulate large network architecture
  3. Gaming is not requirement.
  4. Software Development in the future

So i plan to buy Lenovo ideapad Gaming 3 laptop with the following specification

Laptop 15.6'' 120Hz FHD, AMD Ryzen 7 4800H, GTX 1650Ti 4GB GPU, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD + 512GB SSD, Windows 10, English Backlit Keyboard

so i want to make sure in Ryzen 7 support virtualization such as VT in intel as it is first time dealing with AMD processor and this important feature for me

Note : will upgrade RAM to 32 GB

According to CPU World Specs on that Mobile processor it does support Virtualization. But your laptop must be able to support via BIOS settings: https://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Zen/AMD-Ryzen%207%20Mobile%204800H.html

I believe that AMD-V is similar to Intel's VT.

Do you have link from AMD specification website ?? as i cannot find one

from what I have seen AMD generally doesn't show all the specs of a processor. Just some general specs. You need to go to a website such a CPU World or WikiChip to find out all the publicly known specs on a processor.

But you can try and see by going to AMD Technical and Documentation  and see if you find your processor's family or processor and see what it mentions about your specific processor.

Also I would believe your laptop Support might be able to answer your question or you can ask AMD SUPPORT directly from here:

https://www.amd.com/en/support/contact-email-form

Thanks you very much for your reply.

i still didnot buy this laptop but virtualization feature is critical for me. if it is not supported i will go with intel version instead.

Well the AMD Mobile processor does support virtualization but you laptop must support it also. That is why I suggested you open a Support ticket with the laptop's manufacturer Lenovo to see if that option is available in BIOS Settings.

Personally I believe just about all modern Ryzen laptops support Virtualization (VBS) especially if they are made for Windows 11.

Found this tech article concerning virtualization and Windows 11 processor that you might find interesting if you weren't aware of the info already: https://www.crn.com/news/applications-os/microsoft-exec-windows-11-cpu-requirements-allow-key-securi...

This PCMagazine article about VBS is helpful : https://www.pcworld.com/article/539139/tested-heres-how-much-the-new-windows-security-features-hurt-...
