I want to use the background image facilities in Skype, but the system says I need Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2).AS far as I can see, my CPU, an AMD A10-7700K Radeon R7 has AVX - which I guess is the predecessor to AVX2. Can I upgrade  somehow to AVX2? If so, what's the process for doing so. Or am I just stuck with AVX?

I believe the CPU must have AVX2 built in as part of its Extensions and Technologies.

A10-9700 APU has AVX2 instructions AS AN EXAMPLE ONLY.
