Can Ryzen 7 2700X take advantage of PCIe Gen 4?

Hello,

I purchased several CPUs last year including a Ryzen 7 2700X. Along with all of the news and reviews surrounding the CPUs that are coming out this year I've been reading about the X570 motherboards, PCIe Gen 4, and NVMe drives that support PCIe Gen 4.

Would I be able to upgrade to a newer X570 motherboard for the 2700X or would I also need one of the newer CPUs to get the faster speeds?

Thank you!

Seems like second generation processors doesn't support PCIe 4.0. Only third generation Processors. PCIe 4.0 will be supported on some series AMD 300 & 400 Motherboards with a BIOS update but will be used only when a 3rd Generation Processor is installed which uses the same AM4 socket as the 2nd Generation Processors.

This article explains the above: https://www.pcgamesn.com/amd/400-series-pci-4-0-bandwidth-bios-support-ryzen-3000

This give a better explanation from Tom's Hardware: PCIe 4.0 May Come to all AMD Socket AM4 Motherboards (Updated)
