Broken pin on FX 4100

Hello,

I have an FX 4100 with one broken pin.  It was bent and broke off when I straightened it out.  If the arrow marker points to 12 o'clock, it is at 6 o'clock where there are three pins.  The one on the right broke off.

Is this under warranty?

If not, I'm thinking about using a piece of copper wire to connect to the socket.  Any other ideas?

Some pins aren't essential from what I understand.  What purpose does this one serve?

Thanks,

Eren

amdmatt can point you to a pin map if AMD published it. It's not going to be covered under warranty since it's not a product defect.

Re: Broken pin on FX 4100

I found a pin map.  Broken pin is AL29, MBDQS_L [4]

That's all I've found so far.  Any idea as to what it does?

Re: Broken pin on FX 4100

Sounds like a data pin to me. Strange things can happen when data pins get broken, sometimes there is no observable change, dual channel capability may be lost, or it might not work at all. Plug it back in and see what happens.

Re: Broken pin on FX 4100

The socket on the MB is f'd and that's what caused this mess to begin with. I have since gotten a new MB and an FX 6300.  I'll drop the 4100 in to see what happens (or doesn't).
