Hello!

So as the title suggests, I have problems with running Linux with my new CPU. Windows works perfectly fine. I've tested Manjaro, Arch, Kubuntu and Ubuntu distros.

While loading the OS I usually get the errors in the attached picture. After logging in the user the system randomly freezes (it becomes harder to move the cursor, then it stops completely) and reboots by itself. I've tried all the solutions that I could google: setting processor.max_cstate to 0, 1, and 5 in kernel parameters; adding idle=nomwait in kernel parameters; setting Power Supple Idle Control to Typical Current Idle in UEFI. All of this doesn't help, I am unable to work on Linux for a few months now. I suspect my CPU has a bug that can't have a workaround (I've read about some early versions of AMD CPUs that had this bug).

The problem is surely with the CPU, I've seen people have similar issues. I even used another graphics card and it didn't help.

So, my question is - can my CPU be replaced with a new version?

I would suggest you first ask more specialized Linux forums, such as the Phoronix forums, as users there have far more experience with Linux than on here. After the Ryzen 1000 series Linux issues, I haven't seen anything about AMD incompatibilities.

You can always open either a Online AMD Warranty Request to see if your processor needs to be checked or RMAed or open a AMD Service Request (Official AMD SUPPORT) and see if they believe the issue is hardware (processor) or software.

As mentioned before the Ryzen 1xxx series processors had a defect that caused SIGFAULTS in Linux. But that was remedied later on with later processors.

Did you get anywhere with this? I'm unfortunately in the same situation, Windows works without a problem while any (new) Linux freezes or pops soft locks making it unusable.

Forcing the frequency to 3.2GHz in the BIOS made it stable (Linux mint 20) kernel 5.4.0-42. The original frequency was 3.9GHz.

Does this mean your CPU is capped at 3.2GHz? Do you have any updates regarding this? I'm thinking about getting a 3800x for a Linux workstation, but if CPU speed has to be throttled, I'm not sure this would be a viable option for me.
