Q. Do I need to activate or register my warranty?
A. No. Warranty coverage for an AMD Processor-in-a-Box (PIB) and Processor-in-a-Box without fan (WOF) package begins on the date the product is purchased. In order to claim warranty on an AMD PIB or WOF, a valid proof of purchase is required to verify that the processor is within AMD limited warranty period.
Q. Is the warranty for my AMD Processor-in-a-Box (PIB) still valid if I use a different heatsink/fan (HSF) other than the one provided in the PIB?
A. No. The limited warranty shall be null and void if the AMD processor which is the subject of the limited warranty is used with any heatsink/fan other than the one provided within the PIB.
Q. I need to claim warranty for my processor, but am not sure what the part number and/or serial number is for my processor. How can I find this information?
A. Refer to AMD's warranty page for details on how to determine the part number and/or serial number of the processor.
Q. If a warranty claim is needed, would I be able to request for a processor upgrade?
A. No. AMD, at its sole option, will: (1) repair the AMD processor by means of hardware and/or software; (2) replace the AMD processor with another AMD processor of equal or greater performance, including the replacement of your defective part with an AMD recertified product if the part is not currently available*; OR, (3) if AMD is unable to repair or replace the AMD processor, refund the then-current value of the AMD processor.
*The use of AMD recertified parts as replacements for parts not currently available, is currently in effect for RMA's processed in the US, Canada, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, France, Germany, Italy and UK.
Q. What type of warranty does AMD provide for its processors?
A. Processor-in-a-box (PIB):
AMD provides up to three (3) year limited warranty on its line of processors sold through the AMD Processor in a Box Program. Your vendor will generally provide warranty service for the first 30 to 90 days, after which warranty service will be provided by AMD for the remainder of the warranty. To obtain a prompt exchange, AMD recommends contacting the vendor or system builder as a first attempt for warranty services. If your vendor is unable to provide warranty service, you are unhappy with the vendor's support or you are outside of your vendor's warranty period, you may submit a warranty request directly to AMD.
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) / Trade Product:
Warranty for OEM / trade products is provided exclusively by your vendor or system builder for the period agreed to at the time of purchase. AMD does not provide any additional or supplemental coverage to the warranty offered by your vendor. Please contact your vendor or system builder, or refer to the warranty documentation that accompanied your purchase, for all non-boxed processor warranty issues.

Q. What are the differences between an AMD Processor-in-a-Box (PIB) and an AMD Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Processor?
A PIB is an individually packaged processor which includes a certified heatsink /fan (HSF), certificate of authentication, installation instructions and is covered by a three (3) year limited warranty.
OEM / Trade Product:
Processors sold in bulk with no additional hardware or documentation. OEM processors are sold to vendors or system builders for the purpose of manufacturing and sale of prebuilt computer systems.
Q. Why is an OEM Processor not covered by AMD’s limited warranty?
A. OEM processors are sold in bulk with no additional hardware or documentation to vendors or system builders for the purpose of manufacturing and sale of prebuilt computer systems. Some vendors or system builders may package and sell OEM processors directly to its customers. Through this process, AMD cannot guarantee that the processor was properly handled, packaged, installed or used with compatible components and therefore does not provide warranty directly for the end user.
Q. Is the processor that is installed in my notebook computer covered by AMD’s warranty?
A. AMD processors installed in a laptop / notebook system are considered to be Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) products. Warranty for OEM products is provided exclusively by your vendor or system builder for the period agreed to at the time of purchase. Q. Does AMD limited warranty covers damage to the processor?
A. The limited warranty does not cover damages due to external causes, including improper use, problems with electrical power, accident, neglect, alteration, repair, improper installation, or improper testing.
Q. Are design defects or errors known as “errata” covered by AMD’s limited warranty?
A. AMD does not warrant that your AMD processor will be free from design defects or errors known as "errata". A description of the current characterized errata may be found at http://www.amd.com or is available upon request.
Q. Can I request warranty for only the heatsink/fan (HSF) that came with the processor?
A. Yes, the 3 year limited warranty applies to the processor and HSF provided in a Processor-in-a-Box (PIB) package.
