3900x crash reboots when rendering or performing intense tasks

Jump to solution

Hello,

I've been encountering issues when it comes to rendering a video in handbrake, premier pro or when something spikes the cpu to 100%. It then crash reboots with no BSOD.

I'm running stock with no OC

Specs:

AMD 3900x

Asus ROG Hero VIII X570

Corsair Vegence RGB 3000mhz 32gb (4 sticks)

Nvidia 2080 Founders Edition

950 pro nvme ssd 512gb

EVGA 850P2 850w PSU

Z63 NZXT watercooler 280mm

I have memtest the RAM in the system and its 100% fine, tried another psu and thats fine. Also a fresh install of windows. Only thing I can narrow it down to is CPU or Motherboard.

When I first had the cpu it was hot out of the box and kept hitting the temp fresh-hold. My initial  first thought was that there could be a temp problem so I bought a new AIO cooler which reduced the temps quite significantly.

I then carried on with my renders and yet the issue still exists. CPU at 100% has temps around 71-75 but yet it still crash reboots with no bsod.

Not sure if I received a bad cpu but I did get it from amazon in which I'm able to exchange or refund.

I will probably go down this route and get the same cpu and see what happens.

okay I think this has been resolved with the new CPU I got today.

Temps are far lower at 60c ish, idle at 37c.

Voltages and numbers looks stable.

haven't encountered crashes. all golden.

hello,

CPU temp 75°C at full load it's a correct value.

To be sure:

  • latest bios on motherboard ?
  • AMD chipset drivers 2.04 ?
  • Power Plan set with AMD High perf or Balanced perf ?
  • Samsung NVME SSD drivers 3.3 ?
  • Latest Nvidia drivers from Nvidia website ?
  • Memtest passed with cache ON ?
  • No OC enabled ?

Render use heavy memory data transfer, result in DRAM heat and case internal temps up few degrees.

Render also use graphic board as well, have you monitored it ?

I suggest to do a stability test, first only CPU, second only GPU, last twice.

CPU-Z, AIDA64, Prime95 do the job for the CPU

Furmark to the job very well for the GPU

Ryzen Master to check temps and speed.

For help, some times for DRAM on BIOS manually set, A-XMP to enabled, freq manually set, Vddr manually set to 1.36 or 1.365V.

One of the AMD Moderators mentioned to change this setting in BIOS and also stopped another Users Ryzen 3600 from rebooting constantly without any BSODs also:

Did you tried to change the BIOS configuration that should be in [Advanced CPU Settings] called [Power Supply Idle Control] and change the value to [Typical Current Idle]?
