Hello,
So I put together a PC with a 7700X a little over a year ago and since maybe month 3, it has been experiencing full stop hardware crashes at completely random intervals. These crashes are clearly hardware related as there is zero evidence with Windows that a crash has even occurred(Whocrash, MiniDump, etc... all turn up nothing). Idle or under load makes no difference, neither does length of uptime, the crash will just happen at random. The one thing that is consistent across these crashes is that the DRAM light will light up as the computer sits there with blank monitors and fan still spinning. Switching the PSU off than on again will return the PC to a working state.
Originally, I had assumed this was memory related, but my choice of RAM was on the QVL and it passed Memtest across 5 separate runs, so I ruled that out. Then I moved on to suspecting that perhaps it was BIOS instability with the MSI B650 Tomahawk, as there were many growing pain in the beginning there, but it's been over 2 years now and the issue still persists despite trying several new and old BIOS versions for weeks at a time. It is neither GPU or PSU related as those came from another system and were fine and working when I moved them around. The avenue left is that it is somehow related the the memory controller itself on the 7700X, but I have yet to find anyone else online that has experienced a similar issue other than this one thread on MicroCenter: https://community.microcenter.com/discussion/12937/my-computer-randomly-crashes-then-the-dram-light-...
That one user's problems almost mimic mine, yet they involve entirely different hardware at basically every component. They ultimately just replaced everything until finally moving to replacing the CPU.
Has anyone here experienced this issue or perhaps can provides some guidance than isn't just the bog-standard hardware troubleshooting steps? Does AMD support have any information regarding this? Should I just open an RMA at this point?
