Current system:
Amd ryzen 5 3500
64gb ram
Amd Radeon Rx 5500
500w power supply
I have a noctua nh-u12a cooler.
The CPU requirements:
Am4 socket and capable of running at 65w. I prefer not to have to undervolt but am leaving that as an option.
Ideas?

The 5600X & 5700X are 65W.
You would probably need motherboard bios update for support, check on their website for compatibility.

Thank you, I've prepared for every step up the install but am left struggling to pick a particular CPU. Any particular reason for one over the other? I know my personal opinions and know the 2 units you speak of. I'm just curious for another opinion.
Decided to go with the 5700x thank you. The price even combined me to upgrade his PSU while I was at it. Thanks again.
Depending on what is required from that computer, there is not much point updating it to be honest. It's being held back by the GPU and PSU.
But if number crunching, productivity or CPU tasks is the main purpose rather than actual gaming, then a 5600 non X could bring some value.
I don't care to increase his gaming abilities. Just looking to increase the computers applicable longevity for school work. Thank you for the reply, fyi.
