Hi everyone. I am aware there is a similar thread on this, but I can not reply to this thread any longer, plus I am getting a different type of error. I initially, like the user in the other thread, I waited long for the Adrenaline edition installer to do it, but the AMD Install Manager just sits there with the little loop going round and round and never downloads the update and never does the installation. I then logged out of the local account and in the microsoft account, tried again, no luck.
After following the advice given here, I can run the installation file (both the one found in the directory mentioned and the one I downloaded from the AMD website) but after a few seconds I am getting the error you see on the screenshot. I cannot locate this file anywhere, plus the directory it is asking me to look at does not exist. I can only find AppData/Local, no directory named AppData/Roaming. I hope this is an easy fix and I just need to look somewhere else (please let me know how I can find the location it is aksing me for) but I have been trying for a couple of days now, nothing seems to work. I would be obliged if someone could make a suggestion as to what is going on...
Many thanks!
When you manually download the AMD CHIPSET package and run it, it should automatically create a AMD CHIPSET Folder in your C:\ Root directory.
But before the installation starts you click on the box to install it somewhere else rather than the default path than that would be your problem.
Installing AMD Graphic driver wouldn't affect the installation of the AMD CHIPSET Drivers since they have nothing to be in conflict with, as far as I know.
If at worst you can download the AMD CHIPSET driver package and unzip it and then use Device Manager to update specific AMD drivers by having it scan the unzipped AMD CHIPSET package.
If you are using the AMD Auto-install feature I would ignore it and just download it directly from AMD Download page to see if that fixes your problem.
Thank you. I have not made any changes to the default installation directory path, I just run the installer without changing anything.
I have given up on the AMD auto installer, I just went to the AMD support page and downloaded the file from there. The page has 2 separate files, I have tried them both. They both do the same thing, they install the AMD Adrenaline edition software. Once the software opens, the download area promotes me to run the download manager, which then does what I described earlier with the little loop going round. Therefore I do not do this any longer, and tried the solution I found in the other thread. Which of course brings me to the problem of the installer not finding the path, etc etc.
I have tried to download the AMD CHIPSET driver package with the intention to do what you said (unzip it and then use Device Manager to update specific AMD drivers by having it scan the unzipped AMD CHIPSET package) but I cannot locate it anywhere. As I am warry of using Google to find it for me (not sure which sites are safe to download it from) I have only tried the AMD site, which, I mentioned earlier, has two files that both do the same (install the AMD adrenaline edition etc). This is where I am stuck. Any help is most appreciated.
Many thanks again.
By your reply it seems like you are downloading your GPU Graphics driver and not the AMD CHIPSET Driver. Adrenaline is your AMD Graphic driver that has no AMD CHIPSET drivers on it.
Here is the AMD Download page for CHIPSETS for your motherboard: https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/drivers.html
Choose the type of Motherboard you have. I have a X570 Asus motherboard:
You only have a choice between downloading the AMD CHIPSET package and AMD RAID Package. The one you should click on is the AMD CHIPSET PACKAGE unless you have RAID on your PC then I would download both.
Thank you. I followed your advice and indeed I could download the installer. It seems to be the same file I was running earlier, and again it gave me the error message I showed in the screenhot in my first message. I am at a loss as to what is going on. I have not changed the path, I have not made any other changes, it is just asking me for the folder/file I mentioned earlier but I cannot find it anywhere in my PC (or I am not looking at the right place.)
When you click to install the AMD CHIPSET package does it create a AMD CHIPSET Folder in your C:\Root directory?
Can you provide your PC information. That would be the best help you can give me. Maybe you are using the AMD CHIPSET installer in a PC that isn't compatible (OS wise).
Lets try to fool you PC if it doesn't create a AMD CHIPSET folder in your Root directory after clicking on the AMD CHIPSET.exe file.
Unzip the AMD CHIPSET .exe so it show the following AMD CHIPSET folder like I did on my PC:
Now copy and paste that folder to your C:\Root directory and run the Setup.exe file (Under Administrative Rights) to start the installer. See if that works. If you still get the same error than open a AMD SUPPORT Ticket from here: https://www.amd.com/en/forms/contact-us/support.html
NOTE: Normally in the past when a AMD CHIPSET failed to install I would suggest to download and run a MS Tool called INSTALL/UNINSTALL.
Then I would suggest to delete all Non-Graphics Drivers and then run the AMD CHIPSET file using the INSTALL/UNINSTALL tool to install the chipset drivers.
But if it doesn't work than you wouldn't have an CHIPSET driver on your PC.
So try using the MS INSTALL/UNINSTALL tool to install the AMD CHIPSET package. You can download the MS Tool from here: Microsoft Install/Uninstall Tool
Maybe the MS Tool will fix the Path issue and allow the chipset to install correctly.
EDIT: Reading about Install/Uninstall Tool it mentions it fixes corrupt Registry entries. That could be a very good reason why the AMD installer is failing to install. Your Windows Registry might be targeting a different path thus causing the AMD installer to fail. Just guessing though.
Hi again. To answer your question, yes. The package creates an AMD CHIPSET Folder in my C:\Root directory
This is where the folder appears: C:\AMD\Chipset_Software
then I have the following folders:
Binaries
Logs
Pakages

I am not sure what is going on. I found the file is asking me (on a random folder somewhere) but when I direst the installer to this file I get an error that this is 'not a valid installation file.
If it helps, here is my set up:

I also have the installation log, if it is of any help. It is rather long, but I can copy and paste it here if you think it will help clarify the situyation. Many thanks again!
Is this the AMD CHIPSET file you downloaded from AMD Download page for Windows 11: https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/chipsets/am5/b650.html
Strange enough I am using a Asus TUF Gaming X570 Pro (wifi) Motherboard.
NOTE: By the way make sure you have the latest Non-BETA BIOS Version installed. That might help in compatibility issues on motherboards.
BTW: Here is what the NPU driver is used for in the AMD CHIPSET download page:
The AMD NPU driver, known as the amdxdna driver, manages the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) integrated into AMD's client APUs, enabling efficient execution of machine learning applications. It facilitates communication between the NPU hardware and the operating system, allowing software to utilize the NPU's capabilities for AI tasks.
Yes, this is the file I downloaded. I can find a folder named like this as per your previous message. Running the installer from this folder still gives me the same error.
EDIT!
I downloaded the install/uninstall tool, and followed the instructions. It is asking me whether I have an issue installing or uninstalling a program. I click on install. Then it asks me to identify the program from a list. When I click on the AMD chipset drivers on the list it tells me that this program might be causing the problem. It is asking me if I want to uninstall it. This is where I stop as I am worried, as you mentioned, that if I do I will be left without a chipset driver on the PC and then I am trully in trouble...
EDIT 2: My PC is working fine as it is. I just saw the update and thought I need it.
EDIT 3:
Okay it seems like either a issue with the AMD installer itself or you have a corrupt Registry or Windows OS.
If it is a bug in the AMD Chipset Installer I would assume their would be many more threads here on AMD Forums with the same or similar error.
Try opening a AMD SUPPORT Ticket and see what they suggest from here: https://www.amd.com/en/forms/contact-us/support.html
ALso try using the MS Install/Uninstall Tool to Install the AMD Chipset package and see what happens. IF you get the same error or not.
EDIT: IF your PC is working fine with your current AMD Chipset then I wouldn't update it.
Try installing Asus AMD CHIPSET (older version than the current AMD CHIPSET) from your Motherboard download page and see if it installs without error. IF you get the same error would indicate a Windows issue from here: https://www.asus.com/us/motherboards-components/motherboards/tuf-gaming/tuf-gaming-b650-plus-wifi/he...
Click on the NPU driver to show all the AMD CHIPSET drivers available to download for your motherboard.
If the Asus AMD CHIPSET driver installs normally and correctly than it is a AMD Chipset driver bug in its installer.
Thank you.
I don't see how running a Chipset package would create another account on your PC.
If you are running the normal Windows 11 Pro or Home version it shouldn't have created any new account.
You ran the Asus Chipset did you get any messages or errors? Did the AMD Installer graphics show up letting you know the process of the Chipset installation of drivers?
Did you run the command line "SFC /scannow" without quote under a elevated Command prompt to see if your Windows installation is corrupted or not?
Only as a last resort I would do a Windows 11 System Backup and store it on an external harddrive or second internal HDD/SDD and then do a Clean Windows 11 installation and see if that fixes your problem.
But before that I would open a Asus Support Ticket and also a AMD SUPPORT ticket and see what they suggest.
NOTE: I would still, at least, do a Windows System Backup to an external Harddrive in case anything else go wrong and also do a Windows Restore Point.
EDIT: See if this website explaining how to create a new local Admin account might help you delete it in Windows Settings: https://www.techbout.com/create-local-administrator-account-windows-71287/
Here is how to delete Windows 11 Administrative Account that was created on your PC: https://windowsloop.com/remove-administrator-account-windows-11/
See of you have a Windows Restore point BEFORE running the Asus CHIPSET drivers that created the Admin account.
If you do run the Windows Restore point and see if it restore your PC back to the way it was BEFORE running the Asus chipset driver package.
It just doesn't make any sense. I would report to AMD SUPPORT exactly what the MS Install/Uninstall Tool said about the current AMD CHIPSET Package.
This isn't a Work Station PC correct?
In my reply to the same reply as this one I posted a link on how to delete a Admin Account in Windows 11.
Note: You can try this after first contacting Asus and AMD supports and after doing a System Backup of your Windows 11:
If you delete the current AMD CHIPSET package drivers and restart your PC I assume that Windows will install any missing Chipset drivers (Generic or AMD).
Afterward you can again try to install the AMD CHIPSET driver package using Install/Uninstall an see if it gives you the same error. If it does then try again installing the Asus CHIPSET driver package again and see if it installs correctly.
Or use Device Manager to update the Windows installed AMD or Generic CHIPSET drivers by targeting the AMD CHIPSET folder.
EDIT: when you mentioned you "Unzipped" the Asus CHIPSET package you meant you just click on the Asus CHIPSET package to start the installation, Correct?
Hi again. I will do what you suggested and report it to AMD. My suspicion is that I messed up in one of my previous attempts to install the chipset drivers and somewhere, somehow, somthing is lingering and messing the whole process up. I am happy to send the ticket and see what they say, and since you mentioned that it is not critical to update since my PC (not a workstation) is working fine, I can live with it, I figured out what I did whong and the amdinistrator acount appeared. In my search for solutions before I posted here I came across some advice to run command prompt and type net user administrator /active:yes. I went back to comand promt and typed net user administrator /active:no and the ghost admin account is gone...
Many thanks for your help and advice. I am still perplexed, but as this is not a critical thing to worry about, I will wait to see what AMD have to say. I am still wary on deleting the chipset drivers, as I am not sure what drivers will be installed automatically by windows (if any).
Yes, I clicked on the assus chipset package, but I got a message saying that this is reliant upon unzipping some files. I plressed OK, and this created a folder where all the files unzipped from the initial folder went. There was another setup.exe there which I clicked and did what I described.
EDIT. I like your idea of using Device manager. My only problem is that I do not know where to look in the device manager to find the chipset. Is it under ports, software components or somewhere else?
Thanks again!
