Zero RPM won't turn off

Hi everyone, first of all I want to talk about AMD's Support Service: I contacted them 2 different times to address the problem (I'll explain it later in details) and basically they told me they "can't replicate the problem" and that they hadn't other requests about this problem. This is completely false because there are A LOT of discussion about this posted both on Reddit and on this forum.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

Basically, after totally randomic time, ZeroRPM mode turns ON and there is no possibility to turn it off again unless I completely restart my PC. After I restart my PC, ZeroRPM is OFF, I play games, surf internet, watch videos ecc but after a while (it could be 30 minutes or several hours) it turns ON automatically....if I try to switch it OFF and apply settings, it immediatelly turns on again and I have to restart my PC (AGAIN). This is not a huge problem because my temperatures are really good, but THERE MUST BE something wrong that has to be addressed.

My config:

5700 X3D

Gigabyte RX 7800XT

Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3600 mhz c18

B450 Tomahawk Max

I tried everything:

- removed GPU from it's PCI-E and also switched PCI-E (not worked)

- tried different drivers (not worked)

- changed display port cable with another one and also tried simple HDMI (not worked)

- totally remove overclock settings and run stock settings (not worked)

- switched GPU bios from OC to Silent (not worked)

Please guys, help me! Thank you all!

Must admit i had similar issues with my old MSI RX6700 XT Gaming X to resolve it i used MSI Afterburner to stop the zero rpm. It worked really well and i continued to use it on my Nitro+ RX6900 XT SE and current card AMD RX7900 XTX. At idle my GPU fans spin at a leisurely 24% ( approx. 600rpm ), see if this will resolve your issue.Screenshot 2025-04-15 152811.png

Hi, thank you a lot for your reply.

I started noticing the problem when I actually HAD MSI afterburner installed. I red lots of topics and everyone said using 3rd party program and AMD Adrenalin (that I want to keep) would create issues.

So I proceded uninstalling MSI Afterburner with RevoUninstaller and cleaned all residues with it. Unfortunatelly did not work. This happened something like 5 or 6 months ago.

I want to add that when I was using MSI Afterburner, it showed fans were spinning, but by physically looking at the GPU fans through the case, I realized that they were actually not spinning even though Afterburner was showing that they were.

I made a last try a week ago:

- Completelly removed AMD Adrenalin and drivers with AMD cleanup utility

- Reinstalled drivers ONLY (no Adrenalin software)

- Reinstalled MSI Afterburner and applied custom curve

- Removed MSI Afterburner again

- Reinstalled Drivers and AMD Adrenalin

Unfortunatelly all this did not work.

The Adrenalin software seems to work as expected for my reference AMD card but I have seen similar complaints from users of 3rd party cards concerning various functions of the software.

When it comes to fan speed tuning (including zero rpm) as in your case Gigabyte has designed the cooler and fans my suggestion would be to try the 3rd party utility rather than rely on Adrenalin. In your case that would be GCC (Gigabyte Control Center)

Other utilities such as MSI Afterburner, Sapphire TriXX, ASUS Armoury Crate (for those who dare) and others may be applicable.

Hey, thank for reply!

To be honest I did not consider such thing...the problem is I want to keep Adrenalin...I love this software and it has a lot of nice features!

I'm quite convinced this is some sort of bug....the funny fact is that AMD seems careless about this...as I said, it's Technical Support told me they haven't received other complaints about this problem....this is absolutelly crazy....if you try to search "Zero RPM problem" on google you can find literally TONS of old and new posts reporting issues with Zero RPM mode....issues like mine and different ones....

Other reports of problems with zero rpm I've typically seen is that it won't enable and the fans spin all the time. It's a very useful feature which reduces wear on the fan motors and prevents dust buildup in the card by shutting off the fans when not needed.

It's strange that yours seems to be doing the opposite. I would still try GCC (you could leave Adrenalin installed) just to see if it can override the fan setting.

Yes, most of older complaints were about people were not able to enable it....but newer ones are more similar to my case!

By the way, I'll give GCC a try!
