Windows update destroys my AMD Ryzen 5 4600g drivers.

This is an ongoing problem.  This is on my Acer Aspire with Ryzen 5 4600G.

This happens no matter what new drivers I download from amd.com. 

Any time I do a Windows update, Update deletes the current AMD drivers and installs an older driver:  AMD Radeon (TM) Graphics version 27.20.1032.2 is what it installs.  So now I can no longer use the AMD Radeon Software utilities.  Radeon utilities states that it is not compatible with the currently installed drivers.

Why does it do this?  These drivers are ancient and there is no way to turn on freesync etc with them installed.

Please help.

if you have Windows  10 Pro you can configure it not to download and install any drivers via Windows  Update.

Thanks, but I don't have Win 10 Pro.

And even if I did, that band-aid approach would not resolve the underlying issue.  MS should not be free to mess with my driver selection regardless of OS.

Thank you Ray but I the old drivers came right back.  I will put this on the back burner and hope that Windows 11 will address this issue.  Should be out soon anyway and I plan on upgrading.

Well, I got Windows 11 Home today (4 Oct).

And the Win11 has the same issue.

Looks like I will have to just live with the problem.

This is the most annoying issue I've ever experienced with any driver installation. Literally the minute after the last restart Windows forces its own driver installation and destroys Radeon Software utility.

I don't want to adjust Windows Update in order to turn off ANY driver installation, I want to turn off AMD display drivers installation specifically because other drivers installations cause no troubles.

AMD shall look into it and cooperate with Microsoft to stop Windows updating these drivers.

I been having the same issue a long time. I solved it by downloading Local group policy. You can download the Local group policy from here: https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/add_gpedit_msc_with_powershell.html.

And follow the instructions from here: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-disable-automatic-driver-updates-windows-10.

I hope your issue was resolved.

Another option which I recommend is to use the following script which allows you to tweak and control how Windows 10 functions, and you can revert back the changes too. You can select only Security updates, which is probably what you need.
