My PC keeps freezing and restarting (RX 6750 XT - amdkmdag.sys crash)

ive been experiencing frequent crashes on my PC when i pres like Alt tab , full screen , Windows Key , sometimes while gaming and even during light tasks like using Discord or browsing. The system freezes and reboots instantly no visible BSOD.
I used the app called "WhoCrashed" >

Crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\042225-6515-01.dmp (Minidump)
Bugcheck code: 0x50(0xFFFFC827D1713F00, 0x2, 0xFFFFF8041C72B1DB, 0x2)
Bugcheck name:PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Driver or module in which error occurred: amdkmdag.sys (amdkmdag+174b1db)
File path:C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\u0413647.inf_amd64_d320f14af0da075c\B413137\amdkmdag.sys
Description: ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver
Product: ATI Radeon Family
Company: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
Bug check description:This indicates that invalid system memory has been referenced. This can be caused by a faulty driver. Antivirus software can also trigger this error, as can a corrupted NTFS volume. It can also be caused by faulty hardware, (in particular faulty or overheated RAM or video RAM) or an overheated system component.
Analysis:This is likely a software problem which means that it was probably caused by a bug in a driver.
There is a possibility that this is caused by memory corruption. Memory corruption can be caused by a faulty driver, faulty RAM, overheating and more. Read this article on memory corruption. Read this article on thermal issues
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error.
It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver:
amdkmdag.sys (ATI Radeon Kernel Mode Driver, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.).

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X3D

  • GPU: AMD RX 6750 XT

  • RAM: 32GB (4x8GB — 2x Corsair 3200MHz + 2 other brands mixed)

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2 (BIOS version FFF – latest)

  • PSU: MSI MAG A650BN 650W (80+ Bronze)

  • Cooler: Thermalright 360mm AIO

  • OS: Windows 11

  • Driver version: Latest Adrenalin(25.3.1)

    What I’ve already tried:

    •  Used DDU in Safe Mode to remove GPU drivers, then reinstalled clean

    •  Removed mixed RAM — tested with only 2x8GB Corsair (A2/B2)

    •  XMP disabled

    •  Temps are normal (CPU & GPU not overheating)

    •  Windows Memory Diagnostic = no errors

If anyone has experienced a similar issue or has suggestions, I’d really appreciate the help 🙏

Lots of similar alt tab crashes (black screen, have to force reboot and display driver is disabled) on 6700 XT. I went back to 24.12.1 and will see how it goes.

Hi, I encountered a similar issue. When scrolling in the browser/Discord, the image freezes — I can keep scrolling, but the old image remains on the screen (it might freeze almost the entire screen, leaving only a small rectangle where scrolling is visible, or just the top third of the monitor). Taking a screenshot temporarily helps during such freezes. However, using Win + Shift + S to capture the screen might cause the system to freeze and force a reboot. Additionally, exiting fullscreen mode on YouTube videos also triggers a reboot.

I switched to an older version of the drivers, and at first everything was fine — the frequent freezes in the game disappeared. But then freezing started happening again during scrolling and when watching videos in full screen (tried 2160p and 1440p resolutions). Exiting full-screen mode causes instant freezing and a system reboot.
I followed the steps suggested by johnnyenglish, but no errors were detected. This issue never occurred before, even when I played modern games on ultra settings.

That is a very generic memory error that can even come from your storage drive, I would start running the basics of your OS like DISM and SFC.

Check integrity of your drive with CHKDSK or something much better like macrorit to find possible bad sectors.

Since you've troubleshooted the memory already, I would underclock and power limit the 6750XT to find out if you putting too much pressure on that PSU, because thats the very minimum required for an 6750XT and something along 750Watt gold would be better. Use separate power cables for the card.

But most likely its a software issue, not hardware. Trying an older driver can help too.

Good Luck

Omg, I have rx 6750 xt but windows 10, same thing happened to me before on 25.3.1, I did DDU and installed 25.3.2 yesterday. Three times I had BSOD with error PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and once my PC just restarted. I checked event viewer and it said the stop-error is 0x00000050 (0xffffd1a98f50df00, 0x0000000000000002, 0xfffff8005543b1db, 0x0000000000000002). Also did a Windows Memory Diagnostic, no problems found.

Today while I was taking an online test my pc started freezing every time I do something in chrome on a 25.3.2.

I'll mention I was also getting the scrolling issues mentioned by Draf.

Just to eliminate the GPU card run OCCT vRAM and 3D tests and see if the PC crashes or reboots when those two tests are running.

That could indicate a defective GPU card or bad AMD Driver or possibly bad PSU voltage outputs.

NOTE: Make sure neither CPU or GPU are overheating that can also cause those types of symptoms when running OCCT GPU tests. I would run all three OCCT tests for CPU, GPU, & PSU to make sure it isn't a hardware issue such as overheating, overclocking, bad power outputs, or it is software related like a driver (bad or in conflict).

Does the issue occur when you have the AMD Driver uninstalled and the MS Basic Adapter Display driver is running the GPU card?  If it runs fine without crashing than it probably is a AMD Driver issue.

Hi All,

I just wanted to report that all of my problems seemed to be related to Windows and MPO. I didn't have this issue since the most recent Windows update.

Some further symptoms that have been resolved:

1. Video editing software doesn't locked up when alt tabbed out of WoW

2. Corsair ICUE doesn't lock up when alt tabbed out of WoW.

These seems to be related to multiple apps that are using hardware acceleration but that's as far as I can speculate there.

I'd recommend looking up the fix on disabling MPO via registry and see if it helps you.

Did you manage to solve the problem?

Try this one boys 😎👍🏻

In windows there is a feature called CFG (control flow guard) there you can add exceptions like click + "add" navigate to your game exe like call of duty. Exe from it's folder c:/prog/game/CODMW/ ecc. Then from the CFG list find your added game expand and disable CFG for that specific program. This should stop the freezes or bsod.

From my understanding CFG is like a firewall for applications 🤷🏼‍ when switching / tabbing between apps CFG blocked data flow and crash the driver aka amdkmdig.sys

Have fun 😊

Edit:

P.s. talking about Windows you might want to setup all apps games ecc. As boot with admin privilege because Windows 😂 in bf2042 solves the slow loading glitch and other stuff. Don't know why but win just became so restricted for security reasons that it's causing a ton of problems now .

You were meant to be the solution Not the problem 😂😂😂
