Game Doesn’t Open with AMD GPUs (Driver 25.x.x)

Hello everyone,

I’m facing a serious issue trying to run Tomb Raider I-III Remastered on my system with an AMD graphics card (RX 6660 Power Color) paired with a Ryzen 5 5600G processor. The game simply doesn’t open – it starts and then immediately closes without any error message. I’ve been dealing with this problem since the initial release of the game, and I haven’t been able to play it for over a year.

I have tried several solutions, including:

  • Updating and reinstalling AMD drivers.

  • Using DDU to clean up old drivers.

  • Verifying and reinstalling the game.

  • Changing compatibility settings and screen resolution.

  • Disabling overlays and other background programs.

  • Testing the game on different driver versions (including 24.1.1).

  • Verifying the integrity of the game files on Steam.

None of this has worked. What’s even more curious is that when I tested the game on other platforms (Crossover on Mac and a notebook with an NVIDIA graphics card), the game worked perfectly on both. This leads me to believe that the issue is directly related to the interaction between AMD drivers and Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, especially with the newer driver versions.

Additionally, the game runs fine with driver version 24.1.1, but does not work with newer drivers, including the latest Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, which exhibits the same issue of failing to launch.

I have already contacted Aspyr (the game developers), but unfortunately, I have not received a response so far. I am really unsure how to proceed, as the game only works properly if I downgrade the drivers, but that prevents me from playing other titles that require the latest driver versions.

I would like to know if other users are experiencing the same issue, or if AMD is already aware of this compatibility problem. Thank you in advance for any help or guidance!

Are you perhaps importing profile .zip file after reinstall? I had similar issue. I had to make new profile.

Also check HDD / SSD status. Also also check PCGAMINGWIKI if there's anything similar issues or fixes found there

"I've already tried all possible solutions, but incredibly, when I entered Windows Safe Mode, the game launched. So I thought: since Safe Mode uses a lower screen resolution, I’ll try launching it in normal mode with a lower resolution. Then I changed Windows' resolution to something lower than Full HD, and the game opened. But if Windows is set to 1920x1080, the game doesn’t launch.
