If you are having issues a reset is a good idea. The reset option allows you to backup settings so do so if you don't want to lose them.
Whenever you regress a driver you want to use the reset option or use DDU from wangnardsoft dot com to get a clean slate.
If you are having no issues and just moving forward and have no current problems you can usually upgrade just fine without the reset.
