Hello, I'm having a lot of problems with my GPU lately.
When I launch CS2 (it happens in other games too, but especially this one), I crash with a driver timeout error — usually not even 20 minutes into a match.
Looked at the temp and it seems good, with my GPU not going over 62 Celsius
I've tried undervolting my GPU, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers (even tried the Pro version), changing the RAM and CPU, and updating the BIOS and drivers.
I'm running out of options. Is CS2 just not optimized for the 7900 XTX, is my GPU the issue, or is there another solution I haven't tried
My specs :
-AMD rx 7900xtx 24gb
-ryzen 7 98003dx
-32gb ram ddr5 6000MHz
-1000 watt Power supply
-MSI b650M gaming plus wifi
Thanks in advance, any help is welcome !
Have you tried rolling back to a previous driver using AMD DDU tool to clean your drivers for a fresh install?
Yep i tried, unfortunatly nothing changed (playin on 24.10.1 WHLQ), i tried a lot of previous drivers still have the same problem
First step is to make sure you have a good windows and game installation.
1. chkdsk and repair any errors to ensure no ssd corruption
2. sfc /scannow
3. dism (good options)
4. Verify CS files
Then install or stay with your preferred driver version. Default settings. Very important to clean install or DDU gpu drivers before install.
Then if issue persists, then you can start exploring hardware issues. The above should make sure os/software setup is ok.
Do you have OC version of the XTX?
Yes, I have a Gigabyte 7900 XTX 24GB OC. It seems like I don't have any software issues. Do you have any methods to identify which piece of hardware might be causing the problem ?
I suspect bad OC by gigabyte. Sometimes these factory OC cards cannot always maintain the OC. First test, is set stock 7900 XTX settings. Then see if CS still crashes. This test is to see if OC gpu is bad, assuming it can handle stand xtx clocks and power (and don't have stock power/clocks memorized).
I'm still crashing even when I set the clock to 2550 (default is 3000), and I found something weird when I ran a benchmark (FurMark). Is it normal to have VRAM temp around 95°C, while the hotspot is around 75°C and the GPU temperature is only 56–57°C?
I would look into RMA for GPU. If you have spare gpu, you can try that to verify it is the gpu.
Just out of curiosity, is this just in CS2 or other games because I have a red devil 7900xtx and have no issue playing CS2, what model of 7900xtx are you are running???
Well, it sometimes happens to me in other games, but it's very, very rare — probably only when I'm playing a demanding game for a long period, so it doesn't really bother me. But in CS2, I can't play for more than 20–30 minutes before it crashes. And usually, when CS2 crashes, I have to restart my PC, otherwise the crash happens even quicker, and in other games too. I'm running a Gigabyte 7900 XTX 24GB OC.
Hey There
Did you also try DDU Driver Uninstaller?
I had the same issue a few weeks ago when I build my latest gaming PC with a AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3d and the RX7900XTX we have the same chipset but I have an ASUS ROG motherboard
I downloaded all drivers from the website of my motherboard (Asus) I used the DDU Uninstaller to remove all chipset drivers and videocard drivers. I removed the internet cable and rebooted the computer and manually installed the drivers for the chipset and downloaded the latest AMD Radeon software (before removing the internet cable)
Note: before you remove the internet cable and uninstall chipset and radeon drivers, be sure to download the chipset drivers from the motherboard website and download the latest radeon software ( you remove the internet cable because Windows update will automatically install drivers, and you just wanna do it by yourself)
Second note: Always boot your PC in safe modus if you use DDU
I also did a BIOS update because a BIOS update can do a lot about stability. I don't know if you run the latest or the most stable BIOS for your motherboard, but most of it come out of the box with BIOS software from the launch of the motherboard. After this BIOS update I had a lot more stability and no crashes
And now my PC is running like a charm
I hope you understand what I just wrote because my grammar in English is not the best
@Pilouiis let me know if this worked for you maybe we can check together to solve this problem for you :), there is always an solution
Thank you for your answer, mate. You have perfect English (for a non-native speaker). Unfortunately, this didn’t work for me. I think my GPU is actually the problem, because when I run stress tests, my VRAM temps are way too high (around 95°C and more) compared to my GPU temp (around 55°C on average). I’m not sure about what I’m saying right now because I don’t know much about this stuff, but I don’t think it’s normal from what I’m seeing on the internet.
have you tried reseating the GPU, i had similar problem with an other gigabyte card, and I had to take it out of pcie socket and back in multiple times and now i does not crash in games anymore, it used to crash every hour or so.
I see you've tried a lot of things already. Maybe just RMA the card. I have XTX myself and everything works, from games to productivity. No crashes, no lags, no stutter, nothing. Latest drivers now, but the card behave ever since I've got it, which is over 1,5 years now.
Getting somewhat faulty hardware happens. Once I bought brand new 2080 Ti and it shown nothing but artifacts. Sometimes you simply "win the lottery".
Also, try to run a memory test first. https://www.memtest86.com/
