Hi! I recently swapped out my b450 mobo to a new msi b550m pro vdh wifi (shop updated the bios). Everything is working before the mobo swap out but have been experiencing occasional crashes, that’s why I’m eliminating parts. Transferred the components to the b550 and the bios detects the cpu, ram sticks & ssd. But won’t proceed to windows, boot-loop only until it gets stuck in the “pro series” screen. No debug light indicators
R5 5600g
Hyperx 2x8gb 3200mhz
Coolermaster mwe gold 650w
500gb for OS (gpt partitioned)
Ak400 zd cooler
Already tried:
•1 ram stick or different slots
•clear cmos
•boot in uefi/legacy
•boot using bootable usb with&without the ssd with OS
•change boot priory
•reseat everything, repaste cpu
My last resort was to put them all back to the old mobo and it booted without any problem.
how could I make my new motherboard work with my build?
Hey there!
Just thinking out loud here, even though the shop said they updated the BIOS, could you maybe try flashing it again yourself just to be absolutely sure? Sometimes those things can be a bit finicky. You can usually download the latest BIOS version from the MSI support page for your B550M Pro VDH WIFI and follow their instructions to flash it via USB.
Also, since you mentioned the OS drive is GPT partitioned, make sure your BIOS boot settings are set to UEFI. Sometimes a mismatch there can cause exactly the kind of issue you're seeing where it recognizes the drive but can't actually boot from it.
One more random thought - did you happen to install the chipset drivers for the B550 on your old board before swapping? It's usually recommended to do that to help with a smoother transition, but if not, it might be contributing to the problem now. Unfortunately, you can't really do that now that you can't boot into Windows on the new board.
Good luck getting it sorted!
Hi so sorry for the very late reply. I am currently using my old b450 board because I have not sorted it out and I needed the pc for work. And I only read this reply now. I also didnt know I can install the b550 chipset drivers while on my b450. What exact chipset drivers should I get? Will it not have any issue? Also my bios is like 2 versions behind the most latest one. I’m a bit afraid of flashing because of the frequent power outages in my area recently.
I had similar issues with my b550. Only way I could get it to work was use my gpu hdmi not the boards hdmi port.
Hi! I actually tried with and without gpu. Still wont boot. But I will try again. Thanks for the reply !
