Typically with an older computer, the amount of memory is on the lower side, as in 8 GB or less.  If you have two or more memory slots, you should be able to find some compatible DDR3 memory sticks to get you up to 16 GB.  That should eliminate Windows from having to use your storage drive as a memory swap file when it runs out of RAM.

Another big improvement can be obtained by getting a SATA SSD (say 1 TB) if your motherboard has an available SATA slot.  Moving your Windows OS onto an SSD from a spinning hard drive (HHD) is a big speed improvement.

Lastly, an upgrade to your video card (something under $300 max given your system) will help quite a bit.

As Albert Einstein said, "I could have done so much more with a Big Al's Computer!".

The FM1 socket was pretty short lived.  The best you can get there was the A8-3870K, which will be about 20%-25% faster than the processor you have.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your budget?

See, today, lots of parts/components are relatively easier on your pocket, starting with Mem Kits, MBs, Cases, and PSUs while delivering a much higher performance.

Bottom line, imho, I'd suggest you consider that  the "time-spent-on-upgrading" may not justify the cost (and potential headaches/frustration) as you aim to get the best gaming experience.
